    Motorycle For Sale 96 project

I was hoping to have the time and space to restore this 96 Vmax, but ended up having neither, it was running when it was crashed by the previous owner, I have the salvage title. It has no carbs. Hopefully someone out there wants to put some time into this or even break it for parts, I’m moving...

    HID intermittent initial operation.

Thanks, though I should perhaps clarify, I'm experiencing NO flickering or any kind of failure,IF the bulb lights initially, this is JUST an initial lighting issue. If the bulb does indeed light, the beam is stable and continuous. The trend seems to also be, that if it works it'll work again...

    HID intermittent initial operation.

I have a mosfet R/R installed, did you ever notice that the cold effected it, that seems to be the only thing that makes sense to me.

    HID intermittent initial operation.

Morning all, I've an exactrep HID. Kit installed on my 88, it worked fine for a while, oddly enough BEFORE, I'd fixed my charging problem, now that I have a good 12V with the ignition on, and over 14V when running, I now have an issue where sometimes the headlight illuminates when I turn on the...

How to: Fix your Vmax's low voltage or charging problems

I haven't yet discarded the three prong connector, but I understand it's a weak link, what's everyone's opinion on upgrading that connector to a more robust version, I like the idea of keeping it disconnectable for any future testing needs.

How to: Fix your Vmax's low voltage or charging problems

Well I have a new stator now, I may never know if the old one was failing owing to my earlier misdiagnosis, the new stator alone, made little difference, so process of elimination led me to the R/R old style, bike is an 88. After replacing that with a new MOSFET style one I had voltage in the...

How to: Fix your Vmax's low voltage or charging problems

Hi, just in case anybody else is as clueless with electrics as I am, just a precautionary note, (and please correct me if I've got this ass backwards) I followed this to the letter, and when testing the stator, I believe I've misdiagnosed it as failed because I didn't realize that by...

Inherited Stage 1 Needles with Stock exhaust

Mine's 7 inches too!! (Said the bishop to the actress) So that just leaves the main jets, drilled our maybe not drilled. Would that be a likely candidate for the A/F screws doing next to nothing? Such an education to be had on this forum. Makes me feel sorry for those whose bikes didn't get a...

Inherited Stage 1 Needles with Stock exhaust

Ah ha! Thanks traumahawk. So the stage 1 springs are weaker? So the vacuum overcomes them easier?

Inherited Stage 1 Needles with Stock exhaust

So Here are my findings, I've decided to mess around with the stage 1's as I have the time. I removed thr "Y" from the stock airbox to ride home from work (90 miles) absolutely no difference, but the intake noise does add to rider enjoyment, but I think that's already been documented elsewhere...

Inherited Stage 1 Needles with Stock exhaust

Adambweird, were you also running a stock exhaust? I suppose I should also work on the assumption that the jets have been drilled out to accommodate the needles. Thanks for the Sudco Diagram Blaxmax, that makes sense after all I'm at cruise RPM for 90% of the time.

Inherited Stage 1 Needles with Stock exhaust

Thanks All, I've been working my way through the "carb bible" sticky, it had solved ALL of the issues I was having, it was just the A/F procedure for increasing MPG that brought the odd situation with the A/F screws to my attention.

Inherited Stage 1 Needles with Stock exhaust

Traumahawk That would be .5 of a turn out, thanks for seeking clarification, this stuff is easy to get headed in the wrong direction.

Inherited Stage 1 Needles with Stock exhaust

Ok, all useful info guys thanks. by the way what does +1 mean? So far the bike is running really well IMHO, although I've not ridden another Vmax as a comparison. No flat spots whatsoever, solid acceleration throughout the rev range, I'm very happy with the performance speed and acceleration...

Inherited Stage 1 Needles with Stock exhaust

Thanks Blaxmax, Hugely Informative, I've not yet tried adjusting the A/F with my Carbtune attached, and I shall. Just turning A/F and judging by ear I noticed no change whatsoever until the last 0.5 or even 0.25 of a turn remaining until fully seated, I'm at work until Wednesday but will try...

idle stuck high after reinstalling carbs

I removed my carbs, split them into pairs, and must have been distracted or just not paying attention on reassembly, I also had a high Idle maybe 2500, turned out I had not fully tightened the Plates that hold the carbs together. Resulted in the linkages pushing and pulling the carbs a little...

Inherited Stage 1 Needles with Stock exhaust

Thanks Davesax I will do that. Though I'm not only after a "fix" I would appreciate the chance to educate myself in this matter, But I wouldn't waste time and effort if anybody out there knew already it was fruitless. Thanks for the link to the map by the way That's a fantastic idea!

Inherited Stage 1 Needles with Stock exhaust

Hi all My 88 is running just fine, I've rebuilt and repainted it, and I'm down to final tweaks now. I was having low end issues but I discovered the PAJ2 were the non stock sizes, that's all taken care of. Which also took me from 25 to 30MPG, still low of course so I've been doing everything...
