    Can you identify this bike?

Thanks guys, I'll give my buddy the word and start setting hum up with an idea of what he'll need to get started. He is super green at bikes, but knows the basics of mechanics from working on old trucks and whatnot. I'm going to try to walk him through it but God knows I'm not going to do all...

    Can you identify this bike?

A buddy of mine just bought it as a project. Looks similar to a VMax, but I am not super experienced with them. Any ideas? And I asked for the vin, he says he cant get to it under the fairing....

    V-Max Production Numbers

Anyone around here happen to have a resource on hand that shows how many V-Maxs (V-Maxes? V-Maxii?) were produced per year? I'm specifically interested in the '85, but have been unable to find anything. Thanks

Actually chain slip doesn't fit now that I think of it. If it was my timing would have gotten progressively worse, which it hasn't...

The owners manual doesn't cover cam chain temsion, unless I'm just missing it entirely. I'll take a peek in the service manual though thanks

Took it out today to duplicate the issue, it's actually not as much a high rpm issue as it is a stress on the engine issue. What I mean is that when increasing speed steadily, even at high rpm, there is no issue. When you really get at it though it will knock and stutter just a bit. less so at...

The bike wasn't running when I got it, so it may be something that developed with the previous owner.

All I have either with recently wad the clutch and shift segment, neither of which have a lot of gear on gear contact. This sounds a lot like gears slipping. I'm not saying you're wrong in any way, but like I said, it reminds me of the sound that the starter gear makes when it slips.

Well I stuck it back together and now it seems to work. Go figure. I think the ball bearing behind the pushrod was bound up or somethimg, because after I pulled it out and put it back in the clutch seemed to return to normal. I took it for a spin, and to my surprise I get a loud grinding noise...

Took it apart, put it back together, seems to work. Take it down the road a bit, stop to do some carb adjustments with it running in neutral and it's acting like the clutch is still engaged when I put it in first and release clutch. Pretty annoying I've got to say, but I'm sure I'm doing some...

Not sure what you mean by "the small mastwecyclinder hole" but I'll take a look. I've the clutch back off, and I noticed that the pushrod doesn't seem to be siting flush down where it goes into the shaft. From memory it seems like it should...

    Stuck in first

OK gents, looks like I've still got a question or two Put it all back together and now my clutch lever feels extremely tight/heavy. Also, though I am in gear it would appear that the engine is still in nuetral, as it still rolls freely. When I started it up it did ok, but when I clutched and...

Thanks for the help guys. I got a small butane torch/soldering iron and some nuts just in case. Gave it just a bit of heat and it started coming right on out. I just love how one darn bolt can bring my whole project to a standstill! I cant wait to run this bike ragged, thank for all your help...

Yeah I'm going to give it a whack with a small torch and two nuts and see what I can make happen

Two nuts may work. I would just apply heat but I'm very hesitant to bust out the torch on this one, for obvious reasons.

So as you'll see in the first picture, looks like we were spot on with the shift segment problem. But alas it is not so simple. See picture 2 and 3. I ruined a T30 wrench and naturally buggered up the head of the bolt holdng the segment in place.... No problem, I'll drill a guide and...
