    Diaphram/slides

Remove the slides and check the orifice on the bottom. You might have the same problem I had and that is a Slide from a carburetor with a Dyna jet kit found its way into your carb rack. Dyna Jet offers a carb jet kit that requires you to drill the hole to a larger diameter. If all the holes...

    Idle jet problems

Good point...makes sense! But you know what that means don't you? Now I'm going to need to disassemble the vacuum slides to check the softness of each spring. !!! Crap, more disassembly!

    Idle jet problems

The factory holes that are on the bottom side of the diaphragm slides are there to meter the amount of vacuum created in order to open the slides a certain amount. You can kind of consider this as a calibrated leak and took some engineer and special equipment at the Mikuni plant to determine its...

How to remove glass lens from speedometer

I have called upon this forum to correct a minor problem with my speedometer fogging over on the inside. I did get several responses but none of them offered a remedy to this problem without risking the possibility of damaging the glass or the bezel or ruining the cosmetics! These speedometers...

    Idle jet problems

Found the problem, someone had drilled the orifice in the slide to a larger diameter. I repaired it by inserting a brass tube with the proper size orifice. problem went away. The second set of carbs had all of the slides orifices drilled out which is why it would not run worth a crap! I...

    How to seal fuel tank

In Houston, tank rust is a common problem!! The rust particles are so fine that they will bypass the fuel filter and gum up your carbs. I have done several tanks and the best product by far is a tank sealer by Caswell. It's a two part epoxy and will last the lifetime of your bike. If your tank...

    Idle jet problems

I?ve got an ?85?Max (California model) that?s giving me carb problems. It seems like the problem is in the idle circuit because the # 1 Cyl is not firing (cold Exhaust, intermittent popping out the exhaust) during idle. I have removed carb rack twice and thoroughly cleaned it yet I still have...

    Cleaning speedometer lens

So there really wasn't any trick to it...just a matter of un-crimping it without too much force to prevent breakage. Why did you have to replace the lens? Wouldn't it clean up?

    fuel tank

When you seal your tank, use this product from http://www.caswellplating.com/aids/epoxygas.htm. I have sealed over 5 tanks and have had very very good results. It hardens like glass and can be tinted with a fiberglass gel pigment. Your tank will never ever rust again!!! really!

    Cleaning speedometer lens

OK, I've got a problem with my speedo lens being fogged over. I need to clean the inside of the glass. Can anyone share the method they used to remove the speedometer lens bezel?

Dyna3000 Dynatek 85-89 Ignitions are discontinued

Is there a way to utilize the newer (90-07) CDI or ecu to work on the older 85-89 model maxes? I've been trying to find one of these but no luck!

    Starter Relay Works... No Start?

No one mentioned having a FULLY charged battery!!! If it is weak, it might have enough juice to make it click, but not enough cranking amps to turn it over. Cheap fix too!!

    another COP question???

I guess I'll just go back to the original coils. I can't afford to fry the only TCI I have, and Dyna stopped manufacturing TCI's for the 85-89 Vmax!!! Does anyone have a source to an OEM TCI unit?

    another COP question???

I have an "85" Max with a Dyna ignition and "04" R1 coil sticks. I haven't put any mileage on the bike yet because it is still in the process of becoming roadworthy. I recently read on this forum that the COP mod is damaging the Dyna 3000's. My question is, are there any coil sticks that have...

    Electrical problem...no sparky

After digging into the electrical schematic, I found a circuit that disables the ignition, namely the side stand relay. At first I thought that this relay disables the starter circuit like the neutral switch and the clutch switch. I removed the relay, and was able to pry it apart. When I benched...

    Electrical problem...no sparky

Hi Buster, You see the dilemma I'm faced...but I always enjoy challenges. I forgot to mention that the plugs that were in the bike when I bought it are brand new right out of the package shiny. The seller told me that it was running, then let it sit too long. Battery dead and gas went bad and...

    Electrical problem...no sparky

Yes, it came with a new Dyna 3000 installed yet it is not running, and there is no spark. I do not have the originals.

    Electrical problem...no sparky

I am new to this forum. I just bought a 85 V Max last week with carb and electrical problems. My plan is to bring life back into this baby and want to tackle what I think is the biggest problem first?namely the electrical. Presently, the carbs are off and I discovered that the previous owner...

    Pick up coils

I just bought this bike last week as a “fixer upper” and there were some mods done to the ignition such as a new Dyna 3000 tci and new Dyna coils. The fact that they were changed leads me to believe that the guy was having ignition problems, and started throwing $$$ at it to hopefully get it to...

    Pick up coils

I am having a spark problem with my 85 Max ... or should I say lack of spark and have been checking out all the electrical components and connectors. I also checked the pick up coils and the only wire that checked out to be within specks was the Orange and black wire. I almost purchased a new...
