    this may be a last resort, but I had a similar problem with my 96. (Drove me crazy for a while!) It would run great for a while and then die without warning. It ended up being a faulty ignitor unit. As soon as I changed it the problem was solved.

    Hey I reversed the polarity by accident when I was bench testing my fuel pump. I saw a small puff of smoke from the electrical plug and not it doesn't work at all. Am I totally screwed or is it fixable?

    is the ignition control unit the same thing as the ignitor? If not where do I find it on the bike?

    Thanks Garrett, I have hooked up a battery jump box to it when the bike was hot to make sure it wasn't the battery causing the issue. It turns over great but just won't fire.
