1988 Vmax not firing on all cylinders

Replaced some crappy wiring, cleaned up a bit of corrosion! Still the same, getting pretty frustrated! I have pretty much checked everything twice except replacing the CDI, may have to bite the bullet and take a chance? :bang head:

1988 Vmax not firing on all cylinders

Re: 1988 Vmax not firing on all cyclinders Everything checked out fine in regards to plugs, coils, pressure sensor, pickup coils. What I did find was a voltage drop of 1.3v from the battery to the igniter unit, seems excessive to me? I started disconnecting connectors checking for corrosion...

1988 Vmax not firing on all cylinders

Re: 1988 Vmax not firing on all cyclinders Have done the coil to plug swap, no different, leads are a year old and have checked for corrosion and found none? No corrosion on either end of the leads and they are fully home into the coils and the end caps are screwed tight also? When the plugs...

1988 Vmax not firing on all cylinders

Re: 1988 Vmax not firing on all cyclinders Thanks for the reply miles long, everyting works well besides the miss, all the gauges and lights work, no dimming. Replaced the pickup coils last time I had the problem, they were secondhand so will do the resistance check again. Will check for any...

1988 Vmax not firing on all cylinders

Hi guys, hoping someone can help me with my 88 vmax not firing on all cyclinders? A week ago it was hesitating (breaking down) under load and if you held the trottle open it would clear and accelerate normally? Now it's running on roughly 2 1/2 cyclinders, the front 2 are normal, the rear Lh is...

Gear shift issues! Jammed in second

Hi all, I have an 88 Vmax, lately I have been having trouble upshifting usually 1st to 2nd gear & occasionally feeling like rough meshing, false neutrals and trouble finding neutral while parking. Last night coming home from work I went to gear down from 5 to 1st coming up to lights and found I...

    1998 Carb spring location

Yeah, thanks guys for the help. It was the spring off the choke rod, found it on a photo of a carbie set, thanks Tugla.

    1998 Carb spring location

I've checked all the carbie syn springs, they are all there? The spring I'm talking about is about 2 times longer than a syn spring, half the diameter and as soft as pen spring for an example? Thanks

    1998 Carb spring location

Hi, Just dismantled all 4 carbies and put rebuild kits through them. As I was separating the carbies the workshop manual has a note not to loose the spring that connects the throttle levers. The good news is I didn't loose the spring but the bad news is that I couldn't see where it came from and...

    Cylinder head water jacket joint

Hi, I have an 88 model vmax that has started leaking coolant from the cylinder head water jacket joint. The workshop manual states only to remove them only when essential eg engine overhaul. Wanted to remove them and replace the o-rings and stop the leak, trouble is they are made out of bakelite...

Front tire wobble, already replaced bearings. . .

Check for a buckled front wheel, bought my max as a wreck and didn't notice the buckle. Had changed the neck bearings as they were shot and still had really bad wobble after doin the bounce adjustment on the steering bearings, straightened the buckle and it doesn,t wander or shake, just...

    Head Shake question

I agree with Shawn, as long as the head bearings are in good condition, no pitting or scoring and greased the bounce method works perfect, I think there is a clip on you tube showing it done on a vmax. After I had changed my head bearings I had some serious tank slapping whenever I eased my grip...
