    Ammo size help

I know there are a good number of knowledgeable gun folks in here, so maybe somebody can help me out. I'm making a leather ammo-holder cuff as a gift for a friend in the US. I know he uses mostly S&W .40 ammo so the loops that retain it need to be sized appropriately. I think I've got it...

    Headlight not working

Started up to go for a ride for the first time since new battery and new R/R and the headlight is dead but the high beam light on the instrument panel is lit at all times (whether the switch is on low or high beam). All other lights are working (rear, brake, indicators). Have I buggered...

    Imaginate That

Danny MacAskill is an incredible trials rider, and became famous with his beautiful "Way Back Home" video free-riding around Scotland. Red Bull have put together another incredible video with him, great fun and compelling watching. Had to share: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv3xVOs7_No

Bad rectifier? Replacement options in the UK?

I just replaced my bulging battery, and she coughed straight back into life. However, checking the voltage across the terminals while idling at around 1000rpm, it was around 15V, jumping to 17V if I increased the revs. So the R/R is cooked, I think? Looking at options in the UK...

Valve cover gasket replacement (and painting the engine)

I think I'm losing a little oil from the gasket on cylinder 3 (according to Haynes manual, rear, right). I've cleaned it all up today and will apply talc when totally dry to verify that's where it's coming from. I'm questioning exactly what needs to be done to replace it. The Haynes manual...

    What have I got?

The bike is new to me, needs a lot of love, and I'm trying to get a handle on what I've actually got, by cataloguing stuff as I find it. I could use a hand identifying any mods. Goodridge braided lines for brakes and clutch? Laser mufflers/silencers (don't know about the...

    Cyclepedia Service Manual

I'd considered buying a subscription to the Cyclepedia service manual, http://www.cyclepedia.com/yamaha-vmx1200-vmax-online-service-manual/ but then stumbled upon a version of it in the Amazon Kindle store http://www.amazon.com/1985-2007-Yamaha-VMX1200-Service-ebook/dp/B009CH7ZS2/ As...

    The Bike Shed

I just stumbled across this site, and thought I'd share it. It's not at all related to the VMAX, but got some nice bikes and interesting build stories: http://thebikeshed.cc/

Fuel sender o-ring and drain bolt washer

I found a fuel leak, and after cleaning things up tracked it down to the fuel level sensor. Interestingly, it's something the Haynes manual includes checking for every 4000 miles. Tried tweaking the screws tighter, which slowed the leak a little (already very slow) but a little paranoid about...

    Bike names

I've named most if my bikes, but was at a bit of a loss to know what to call my V-Max and in the end decided to let my 6 year old son name her. He chose Marlene, after the otter in The Penguins of Madagascar (a spin-off show from the Madagascar movies). It's growing on me. She's kind of mild...

    Replacement drain cock assembly

I have a badly corroded drain cock assembly (Yamaha part no. 1FK-12560-01-00) that's causing a leak after re-assembly. I found this one on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-VMX1200-VMAX-V-Max-2WE-Lower-Metal-Water-Pipe-Drain-/310646307089 But at that price, I'm wondering if it...

    Measuring engine speed

I bought the Kindle version of the Cyclepedia manual for the V-Max (the images in the Haynes manual are not very clear). There are a couple of places, including carb sync (see attached), where it refers to using an inductive tachometer to measure the engine speed. The Haynes manual doesn't seem...

    Tapatalk sync problems

Does anybody else have problems with Tapatalk forgetting (or not syncing) which posts have been read? I read them in Tapatalk, but on refreshing the forum in the app the same threads are unread again with exactly the same posts being unread. The website never sees that I have read anything in...
