Most bags have a waterproof cover that slips on. The Tourmaster Cortex bags I had had problems though. The covers wouldn't stay on (had to bungee them) and the covers ripped to shreds the first trip I took with them. Also the heat shield on the bottom of both saddlebags disintegrated on that first trip. Funny thing is I had a 4 into one so heat from the muffler obviously wasn't the cause. Switched to Nelson Rigg and am very happy. Tourmaster never responded to my emails to customer support for several months. Nelson Rigg has a lifetime replacement warranty. ANY problems and they replace the complete unit. I now have 4 various Nelson Rigg bags. (Saddle, tank and two sizes of tail/seat bag).

Just my experience....

Also, Willie and Max makes an adjustable universal saddlebag guard that might work to keep the bags clear of the shocks, etc.
