Default 1985 new to me..dont feel like its at full power

All,
i got a 85 1200 vmax. i dont feel like its hitting its full power what can i check to see if its restricted CDI BOX check (how) or what other electrical component can i check. the vboost does the clicking and i notice a increase at 6000rpm. throttle responce is weak in low rpm's. I read some max's 4th cylinder has issues..? also whats the norm for idle RPM.

and insight would be great

1k for the idle , 87 for the fuel.
If you have a infrared gun you could shoot the exhaust ports and they should be close.
I also would look up the peashooter and shotgun deal then sync the carbs.
Syncing them will be noticeable diff in throttle response if they we off.

Power wise, I feel the same. It goes very good...just was expecting more of a "hit" then it does.
If I slowly wind up in 1st to 6k then wot it lifts the front wheel and goes.
If I get into it from a roll in 1st it's not that noticeable to me.
It still goes like stink but my 450 hits harder.
That said, this is coming from a guy that has a 10.60 street car tho!
The bar is pretty high.

Welcome Tweeter45..
Just a little info..
You might want to re-post this issue in the General Vmax Area - Or Carb Issues area..
This area may not get you the help you're seeking right away, since this is for posting about problems with the website / Forum software itself.

Take care..

I would definitely do the carb cleaning/syncing like I mentioned if it sat for any time prior to you buying it.

If the bike sat for that long, then I would think the carbs are definitely going to need cleaned up. From my experience, more often than not the running issues for these bikes are carb related. There are a lot of great sticky threads in the carb/tuning section on here. There is also a good youtube video showing the shotgun method which will allow you to keep the carbs on the bike and intact, but isn't doesn't always work. I would give it a shot though. There is also the possibility that whoever went through the carbs before didn't put them back together properly.
