I do quite a bit of touring on my bike. My wife and I like to get away for a couple of days at least twice a month, so I have added a few things to make it more practical, such as a Givi hard luggage, twin horns and running lights fitted to the crash bars, a very bright L.E.D. additional 'high beam' (the headlight is also L.E.D as the highways over here are not lit) I have also had the seat re-upholstered with gel inserts for comfort on long distances. I believe my bike is an '86.

That's an awesome job. Care to share any details and pics of how it went together?

It took a couple of hours to fit the luggage cases. I bought them locally and the cases only cost $50 a pair (new). The brackets were more expensive at $60 a pair. They are made specifically for the Vmax so they use the existing fixing points, utilizing the rear indicator mounts and rear grab rail. The rear indicators have to be relocated to the mounting bracket. The cases are 'quick release' and can be removed from the bike in seconds. I had the seat re-upholstered by a local guy who specializes in bike seats. He has gel inserts and they are really comfortable. he did a great job, he charged $60 for everything, not bad considering it took him 2 days. The high beam L.E.D is wired to the high beam, but the running lights mounted to the crash bars are wired independently and have there own handlebar mounted switch. They are also L.E.D and have three settings. White, white flashing, or red/blue alternate flashing (which makes it look like a Police bike and great for getting through traffic and legal here). I've included a couple of photos of the mounting positions for the cases and a closer view of the lights.

That looks like a nice setup! I used Fatmax side cases with a Givi 52L on top of a Cyclistic rear rack and a Givi 22" tall windshield. I have Kuryakyn highway pegs and a Airhawk seat cushion but I still got cramped up after about 3 hours of riding. I also had a 1 gal rotopax in place of the rear seat then a 50 L waterproof bag strapped on top of it. This worked for my 3 week to Newfoundland with Davesax36. Newfoundland is a great place to ride a motorcycle and the people there are so freindly!

If I could do up a set of bags like that, Kathy and I would definitely ride Zilla to Thunder next year.

my gig..setup..
