Is anybody using these gizmos? What kind of plan is needed for the sim card? How accurate is it? Please post up. Considering buying into this technology.

Are you looking to buy a GPS unit? Or just one for your phone?
I have used Google maps on my iPhone with good results, Apple also has a map app but I didn't like it as well. Just download the app then enter a address and go. It does use up the battery much faster though so having it connected to a power source is needed. Here is a link to what it does: https://support.google.com/maps/answer/3273406?co=GENIE.Platform%3DiOS&hl=en
Google maps doe have it's limitations though: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...s-work-with-cellular-data-turned-off.1903240/
Also, my phone is in a case so itwill get hot and shutdown so that can be a issue as well.
For a recent trip to Newfoundland I purchased an Garmin Montana 680t. I also have a Garmin Nuvi 260 and Lowrance Global map 100, both are old and out of updates. The 680t is a great GPS unit and has way more bells and whistles needed for simple route finding though and is pricey if used for just that.

I just reread the title and realized that you are probably looking for a GPS security device not a route finding GPS device. I don't have any experience with these type devices.
