Wish I had the knowledge to that kinda build my dad did but I was to busy learning hunting fishing and chasing 2 leggers .I'd give anything to go back and learn rebuilds next to my dad .. Good luck with yours..

Thanks for the well wishes guys. Yea I always wished that about my grandpa, the things he built and designed were amazing. I got the old girl fired up tonight! The exhaust sound from the 1428 with stock top end to the 1500 with head work and cams is absolutely amazing. There is not near as much rappy sound and it's much deeper.

Sweet !!!!
I can only dream of having the skill and talent do do that kind of motor work.

PS
We are Impatiently waiting for a Video of your 1500 Roaring !!!

Awesome!
What's going on with those liners?
Looks like the cut the casing portion of the cylinder wall to less than deck height and brought only the liners up to meet the head gasket.

Not saying anythings wrong just curious as have not seen this before.

Yea the original aluminum portion of the sleeve ends up being too thin. The liners in this engine have a half inch height on the lip vs the standard big bore liners that have a quarter inch lip. I don't know where thunder valley is, but I'm interested! Well its 3 am and I think I am done for the night and ready for my maiden voyage tomorrow if it doesn't rain. I had so.e serious issues with a compression in coolant. I got it narrowed down to cylinder 1 and had to tear the head off in chassis. It ended up that the copper fire ring in the sleeve had a lip on the seam of the wire. I talked to Sean and ended up sanding the high spot down and flipping the copper head gasket and applying copper permatex. Sean also suggested to torque the ARP head studs to 60 foot pounds. So once everything was back together we have no leaks! The new chrome pieces from Morleys muscle are some very high quality! Don't be rough on me for not painting the engine, the bike is getting stripped over winter and getting an R1 front end and everything painted!

Thanks! Not really sure on the dyno. It would be nice to know, but I'm afraid if I don't like the numbers I will continue to waste more money on this money pit!

No worries on the engine painting, enjoy the fruits of your labor! Bike looks great as is and I'm sure will only get better as you go.
Thunder in the Valley (Somerset, PA.), is the location of VMOA's meet every year. This year is the Vmax's 30th birthday which means a big celebration!

I got out riding with my buddy who has a 05 that is stock short of a marks pipe. We switched bikes at one point to compare, and wow it was sure a difference. I pulled out onto a sweeping corner and when I grabbed second and craked on it, the back end got all kinds of loose. I finally got enough miles on it to really pound on it, and wow the top end power is unreal. it takes no time to go from 60 to 140. I have a bit more tuning to do on the carbs yet, but once thats done we should be all set. I lhe love the looks I get when I pull the front end off the ground on this beast.

Yea Sean, I lightly block sanded the fire ring, flipped the head gasket, used the copper permatex and torqued to 60 ft pounds. Thanks again for the help that night.

I had a weird issue though that I cant find any answer to. I was out riding the other day after I hit my 600 mile break in period. I was running about 80 in fourth and hit it hard grabbed fifth and when I hit about 140-145 I heard a large pop. I immediately backed her down and all the vitals looked fine and it ran no different. I have since changed the oil and there was absolutely nothing in there metallic. chain was just a shade loose but otherwise everything seemed intact. I have been a little gun shy since then however.

Chain jumped a tooth? I have seen that happen.

How's the "oil suck" on hard runs? Are you running positive to filters or catch can vented to atmosphere.
Another thing you might check is behind the mid gear cover. See if any of the retainer bolts are broken.
