Finally my stainless laser cut inserts have arrived. How do you fancy it? Still no clues about the drive stuff?

The part on the right is a CV. Im working on a single side drive swinger

:surprise:
I can't even get some of those words to fit into my head, in-line CV joint on the shaft? single sided swinger....

I think I'll stick with anything that bolts/glues on

The CV is to correct the angle of the pinion coming out of the final drive. Unfortunately there is a convergence of about 3 degrees in that pinion so as from basic transmission theory a double ujoint setup has to run parallel so i needed to correct that angle prior to setting up the driven ujoint, the CV is there for that purpose.

Would a double U-joint work if you ran the middle shaft through a support bearing?

The middle shaft cannot be held by a bearing due sliding motion caused by suspension. The problem is not that, is that a double ujoint system has to be in Z or W shape otherwise the crossmember will windup and break.

Went for something different today. I was tired of so much polishing and sanding so i started respraying my forks and calipers. Will be titanium color, what do you guys think?...

Why does the CV joint look like it's going inside the engine casing? It's going to replace the front u-joint, right? And where are you going to fit something that size? And it's gonna be single sided? WHOA! Another very interesting project.

Did you know that CVs can be lightened quite a lot by machining the OD down to half way thru the bolt holes? Just leave enough material at the edges so the bolts have support. Makes a big difference to reciprocating mass!

You're crazy Fred. I like that.

You are seeing it wrong, thats the rear end in which theres a second ujoint and the cv connects to the final drive. As soon as i get the CV flange i'll show you the complete setup.

Clear covers already done. Just waiting for gasket seal to dry up and trim the excess to make them purdy and perfect...

After 3,5 months in transit i finally got the part that Steve made for my project. A big kudos to Steve for the quality of his work.

Here's a mockup of what im working on. A drive shaft single sider with a CV joint. Now i need to build a housing for the bearings hub to intermediate in between the final drive and the swinger...
