Never heard of that happening, and it's only sold as a complete assembly.
Not sure if it can be re-keyed? Possibly? I do have complete key sets as well as used individual parts. Ed (Custom Max i think he goes by) is a locksmith and could possibly answer your question.

The lock cylinder can definitely be removed. Once removed, I don't see why you couldn't remove the tumblers so that any key could work.
