First time owner 89 70k very nice condition. That being said here's the discovery at idle he's only firing on the left side, confirmed that right plugs are sparking. When riding he is fine and vboost is working, OH MY GOSH! So planning on shotgunning the right carbs, sound like a plan? Just wanted to share, haven't seen anyone post about just idling on 2 cylinders, will not idle on one! Thanks G.

Probably going to need a carb overhaul, you can try the peashooter & shotgun, but best results will likely come from a teardown/rebuild. There are several guys on here who can accommodate you.

You have the 'old style' ignition, smaller front end dia. downtubes, single opposed piston front brakes, not sure about the two-pole starter vs the four-pole starter, I think the last year for the 2 pole is 1989.

Don't let any of that stuff deter you, probably the biggest thing is to run it hard in 1st, and hit 2nd, and see if it jumps out of gear, an expensive fix requiring engine removal & case splitting.

If you have a multimeter, see what the voltage is across the battery at idle, then run it up to 4000 & see how it changes. Should be well-over 12 V at idle, and about 14 V revved-up.

If it won't start on its own & needs a jump, $70 for a battery, or more. Lithium ion ones are more-than twice that, but you drop several pounds.

Check the fork triple trees, esp. the lower one, at the stops, a hard get-off (accident) could snap-off a fork stop. Also, grab the wheels/tires as close to the top as you can and try & move them side to side, any movement is probably bad wheel bearings. Do the same for the front forks. Lock the front brake on, and have someone feel at either the top or bottom of the steering stem for any play when you rock the bike back & forth. Any discernible play is going to requlre a new set of steering stem bearings. The outer races can be difficult to remove, esp. the bottom.

Thanks, no gear jumping, voltage at battery is good low rpm and high, newer battery, front end in good repair fork seals replaced had wandering issues that were tire and steering head adjustment related, new brake pads front and back, stops as well as it goes. Nice to be a maker! G.
