I'm wondering what make it's very rare? Low mileage, maybe. Very rare? Don't think so. I think you're going to find the market is pretty down on these bikes right now, I've seen nice examples in the 2-3K range on a regular basis in the midwest, especially during the dead of winter...

People are just stupid, nothing ceases to amaze me anymore. So many classic bikes ruined simply because an owner couldn't spend 20 dollars at Wal-Mart for AT LEAST a few bungy cords and a tarp. That 85 with 1200 miles might be worth restoring, you'd have to assume that 2nd gear was OK with...

I'd be hard pressed to give more than $500 bucks for a 1st Generation VMAX with a bad second gear, only way to come out ahead would be to part it out, and that assumes that your labor is going to be free. Just not a lot of money in it, and the VMAX market has been a dumpster fire the past...
