Well contacted the dealer/wrecker and he apologized for the mixup. Said he'd send me the correct one and to keep the other. It showed up Thursday and I put it in. Went out for a rip Friday and I gotta say I LOVE IT!!! Nice, smooth and quiet. And the rpm drop is awesome. Like an extra gear...

Posted on a Canadian site looking for a 1986 to 1993 Yamaha Venture 1300 final drive. A dealer responded saying he had one, paid, shipped, arrived and went to install it today and the shock mount is not in the same place as my vmax :bang head: He said it was off a 1990.

Yeah I did the screw driver stethoscope trick and it's definitely coming from the rear. I'm sure they've got the lash wrong. I'm going to start there. Thanks for the feedback.

No it is definitely drive line related. But I haven't tried putting it up on the stand and running it up to speed to see if I can tell where it's coming from. Perhaps the screwdriver trick or stethoscope. I'll check the manual for verifying the lash. I had a guy set the lash wrong on a 10 bolt...

Well I'm told by the stealership that the bearings and shims need to be done on my 2007 Vmax. And parts are backordered for about 3 weeks. Thinking now might be a good time to do the Venture final drive swap. From what I've read 1986 to 1993 1300cc Venture final drives will fit? Is this correct?

Thanks for the replies. Gear lash is very minimal for sure. I'd guess it's between 4 and 8 thou. Radial play seems low to me as well, very minimal. It's the up and down or in and out ;-) that seems excessive. Is there a special tool to remove the aluminum piece with the 4 slots in it? I tried...

Here are some more pics. The quick detach brackets definitely needed to be tweaked to fit, and I ended up mounting the signals to the wing brackets too. So it's quick detach - but you need to unplug the lights. I used the Sadlemen brackets - also tweaked and spaced... Then made some brackets...

Well it took a while but I finally got my batwing and bags installed. I'm really happy with the look, comfort and space.
