How many miles are to many miles?

It sounds like a solid bike and price is not at all bad. I found this forum a couple months before I purchased my Vmax and reading through the technical sections was a great way to get a feel for what to look for. 1986 Fork seal dust covers

I was surprised with my local dealer having parts for my 1992 but the parts counter employee who has been there since the early 80's said that Yamaha has a habit of using many parts across many product lines. While they have only sold a few Vmax's and no longer sell many bikes at all they do...

    another project

That will be a cool resto Kyle, especially so that it will also be honoring your Uncle. As a young lad of the early 70's I subscribed to 2 or three dirt bike mags and I loved to read the reports on Jim Pomeroy racing in Europe. One particular story that has stuck in my mind was a race in...

    Blank center console spot

    oil catch can project

If I am understanding your setup correctly it would probably work if the small air filter was inside of the air box so it would get a vacuum pull from the carbs. The carbs pulling a vacuum on the crankcase is the biggest advantage for this setup.

    Clutch mod

The clutch lever mod is this: to make the pull easier by boring out the levers mounting hole and inserting a small roller bearing (friction fit) that will ride on the bolt that secures the lever to the perch. I have a procedure but it is at home on the backup drive, I'll try to remember to post...

    Popping though carbs

The o-ring he speaks of is more than likely for the oil pickup, if that pops the engine won't pump oil from the oil pan back to the engine. It could mean a toasted engine which I am told is not so much fun.
