    Fallen vmx1200

"Lay it down yourself. Plenty of blankets and padding. Better to be over gently than dropped." I agree with this, but if you use a lead/acid battery, remove the battery. You might want to empty the gas tank too...

CaptainKyle [email protected] or Sean Morley [email protected] should have a pair of case savers, used, for you.

What's this NOISE from oil pan?

You might drop the sump pan and see what's rattling around in there. Maybe something in the clutch, like a loosening clutch basket nut? Or a diaphragm spring retaining bolt? It does sound like a loosened fastener allowing a bit of interference with the reciprocating bits. Try using a...

22 years later it returns home - 1997

Ride safely, and enjoy the reunion. I'd stick some case-savers on that for protection. Montreal, eh? It seems like thousands of Quebecois arrive in Ft. Lauderdale about now for their winter respite. Dania Beach, Hollywood, Pembroke Park, and Hallandale Beach are congregation points pour...

    Motorcycle seat bolts thread issue

I use a Corbin seat and don't bother w/a pair of seatbolts. It makes re-fueling easier too, just remove the seat and fill-up. If you have to have a female thread there, drill-out what's there and use a rivet gun to install a female thread

    Intermittent starting issue

Grounds, sir! Check them, the main one is by the oil filler cap. Another one is on the right side of the faux gas tank cover, on the sheetmetal bracket holding the tank cover fastener. The fuel pump is beneath the bracket. Shiny bare metal and tight fastener, please. Some WD-40 or CRC 5-56 on...

what did I just score on ebay?

After welding, the wheel was machined. That's why it appears to be not welded. Get your swingarm notched, because a 6" wide rim isn't going to have enough clearance with something like a 190 tire mounted. A 5-1/2" wheel will barely fit on a stock swingarm with a 180 tire. Here's a pic of a...

    Balance shaft delete?

My friend who builds Hyabusas sometimes has eliminated the balance shafts. That case-cracker surely seems to be a good reason not to try that with a VMax, turning-down the counterweights.

Keyster is likely your problem. Either OEM, or K & L. https://www.vmaxforum.net/threads/one-cylinder-running-rich.53848/#post-539508

What's the reason for the wave phenomenon?

Many people say their bikes have some instability of some sort. Wear of suspension components over time, and tire choice and then wear can make this happen. The best things to do are to use a factory manual to check the steering head bearings for wear and proper torque, and the same for the...

    Carb synch issue

A word to the wise, you better buy parts now, for whatever you're planning to do in the future, because of the longshoremens' strike. You are in for a long wait if this runs into months, and then once it's settled, there will be a big backlog. Don't forget paper towels and T.P.! :( 👍 The...

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

I like that first 1,000 miles on new skins, the bike is so-smooth and great handling. That diminishes as the rear tire gets square in profile because there aren't that-many curves in FL, and half of those are roundabouts to enter/exit interstates. I normally let the shop do the tires, if you...

    Poor running at low revs

Yes, possibly the pilot jets, 1 or more. Do you have access to an ultrasonic cleaner? The 'cheapest by price' is probably a Vevor. Here's a decent sized & powered one, 15 liters. It pays for itself the first time you use it...

Progressive Shocks Dilemma Need suspension Guru's!

The VMax shock OEM, is 13" O.C. You should get the 13" O.C. aftermarket shock if you don't have to reduce the shock length because you're short. And then, the only changes recommended are 12.5" or 12" if you must. The trade-off is less ground clearance, and if you still have a centerstand, you...
