Our left rear gas burner is sized differently from the others, it's for smaller pots and frying pans, or an espresso pot. My friend's shop sometimes gets in a problem child which isn't fixed after the first disassembly/immersion in the ultrasonic tank, It happens. Perseverance and careful...

    Finishing Toasted... Suggestions?

Even a scratched/gouged/broken scoop can be successfully repaired. I'm not an experienced welder to be able to do the repair, but I had a deeply-gouged scoop I had a friend MIG weld for me, which I then used body filler to establish/fill the area of the damage, the crease in the middle of the...

My chasis is bended. Any ideas?

Congratulations! You now have a quick-to-steer bike! Quicker to steer than an undamaged VMax. I once rode a VMax bike which took a hit in the front hard-enough to break a lower triple tree steering stop. While I didn't do any triple-digit speeds, at legal speeds I couldn't tell of any...

Motorycle For Sale 85 vmax 5500 miles

I've bought used VMaxes with all-sorts of bungled problems. One of the issues I had was that the rubber plugs were lying in the float bowl, not installed, and one of the jet block brass jets was also taking a bath in gas, sitting in the float bowl, not installed in the jet block. I believe it...

I like Martin Senour Alumi blast spray cans for refinishing aluminum castings. This pair was pretty-rough. I used aircraft stripper to remove the OEM treatment. See for yourself how the product works. https://www.vmaxforum.net/threads/painting-aluminum-parts.47436/ Before: After (first...

The early Virago backrest hoop and the VMax backrest hoop are the same configuration. What aren't the same are the Virago side rails and the VMax side rails. The VMax backrest hoop will fit into the Virago side rails. The early Virago backrest hoop will fit into the Vmax side rails. The...

My friend Yamaha dealership mechanic Bill Boyce, in Pompano Beach FL once told me, "buy a new fuel tank and then tear-down the carburetors, and rebuild them." Those of us here, may choose to do some gas tank cleaning instead of buying a new one, but I can see the truth of what he said. His point...

    Good morning Vmax Family

Sean Morley has mentioned numerous times that there isn't much difference in performance among the full exhaust 4-into-1's. I'd say that the Kerker 4/1 and the UFO Dragstar 4/1 are probably the favored picks. UFO, formerly and now Star Rider Performance (SRP). The UFO doesn't require you to...

Tested it today and it drives good.

The great thing about a Generation 1 is that when it was released, it was the quickest thing out there, and nearly the fastest, for production bikes. It had a unique appearance, and back then, a 'big tire' was a 130/90 x 18". The VMax's 150 exceeded everything else, and the 15" dia rim was what...

The age of the tires is something that tells me I wouldn't use them based upon their manufacturing date. A catastrophic failure usually gives no warning other than a rapid decompression. On the rear, you might be able to wrestle the bike to the side of the road, but if it's a front tire, and...

A great job on the engraving on the wheel. It looks like one of those things where the closer you look, the more there is to see. Here is info on a true artist in metal and paint, Ken Howard, who was a machinist, gunsmith, knifemaker and painter, also did engraving of firearms, He was...

    engine case swap

In '96 the new style oil filter was introduced, which also required a change in the frame cross-brace between the 2 downtubes to having it curve in a semi-circle around the spin-on filter. Since yours is a '94, this is not an issue...

That's a good referral 82nd. I have the same charger, which can also be used to do electrolysis of your gas tank, should it need it. The newer, 'smart' chargers, don't operate the same way as your Schumacher does. Anyone know what connection to motorsports Schumacher has? No-fair googling.
