As far as I'm aware there wasn't a change once the later ignition unit was introduced. A photo of what you were sent and it identification label would be helpful.

No easy way I can think of. If you suspect foreign matter then an endoscope for your mobile would be the easiest way to check and avoid the need for any dismantling. To answer you question I'm not sure if you can access the head bolts with the cams in situ - other will know the answer.

I can confirm Bill's experience when I had mine done last year. When having the surgery all you can see is a bright light and feel some pressure. As the eye is anaesthetised you don't feel anything. For me the worst part was the water that ran into my ear 'ole!
