    Possible Ignition Issue

You being an auto mechanic, maybe you have a small electric pump you can hook up to feed the carbs (3-5 PSI) and see if the problem goes away. your pump may have this problem, I have a pump sitting on the shelf that I cannot keep this little diaphragm in place...read this post...

    Possible Ignition Issue

I think it may be a fuel related problem like JF mentioned, could be a plugged vent line off fuel tank also.

Engine will not start after Shotgun

[Medics quote] Get hip to those girls in the cage diggin'-on Battle Creek MI's finest! There you have it John, you may have to play this video while trying to crank the Boss's bike:rofl_200::rofl_200:

Engine will not start after Shotgun

Do what Medic said, if you have run down the battery and the voltage drops to about 10 volts while cranking the engine over the ecm will not have enough voltage to fire the plugs. I would put new plugs in her and assist the start again with jumper cables from your vehicle.

No Carbtune reading on #2 carb

Now that's a good option, you should definitely do that........Dannymax is the best and if you have a problem he will find it......I say DO IT!!

No Carbtune reading on #2 carb

I personally would pull the valve covers and check for a broken camshaft or spring while you are waiting on parts. You could get that variable out of the equation, then again you may in fact find a broken cam shaft.

    test ride done finally

Ground the temp wire that plugs into the sensor under the right scoop, it should peg the needle out unless the needle is stuck. Might try tapping on the instrument cluster with sensor wire grounded. Might want to check the brgs in the front wheel for free play.

No Carbtune reading on #2 carb

I would inspect manifolds very close for cracks or loose bolts or bad O-ring. This is a pic of the manifold where it bolt on to the engine head.

No, it's ok to spin the motor with plug wires off not grounded........

No Carbtune reading on #2 carb

Yes, a leak down test may reveal weather he has a broke valve spring, tight valve or ring blow by. Me being a pessimist by nature, as others have mentioned, a broke cam shaft. I know of two members on here that have had broke cam shafts, but I don't know if they reported their symptoms.

    85 vmax knocking

Nice looking bike Randy, I would have trouble parting her out. I would put a 1260 engine in it and have a fast running Vmax........

No Carbtune reading on #2 carb

Now would be a good time to take a compression test, which may reveal some thing out of the ordinary on that cylinder...

    Question about battery charging

The tick, tick sound you hear is a sign your battery is so low on voltage the solenoid can not engage. I don't think it's a hot start issue with this symptom. A battery can short out internally, old or new. Have it load tested !!!

    Question about battery charging

I would think your new battery is bad. Charge it up and have it load tested at your local auto parts store.
