    Carb balancing starting point.

I was unaware you had found and removed the o-rings. You are correct, you would have certainly have seen the washers if they were there.

    Carb balancing starting point.

You may want to do a little more investigating regarding the washers & o-rings. Almost a certainty they are in place and you missed them...it's easy to do.

Float set, 28.5mm suggested so what would 30 mm act like?

I don't measure the 15mm - 17mm....I use a pre-set gauge. Yamaha has a wet level gauge which is easy to make & usable with the carbs on the bike. Wet level check is the final word on your fuel levels.

Float set, 28.5mm suggested so what would 30 mm act like?

Why don't you have o rings on the mixture screws?

Float set, 28.5mm suggested so what would 30 mm act like?

I measure the air space between the top pf the float and top of the carb body. Factory spec is 15mm - 17mm. With the carb in the upright position, as it is when installed on the bike, the closer the float is to the top of the float chamber...the more fuel in the chamber....hence it becomes...

Float set, 28.5mm suggested so what would 30 mm act like?

Vmax likes to run lean, 16mm - 17mm air space is good.

    Intermittent carb leak

Think you're correct with the intermittent sticking float/needle.

Disconnect the fuel pump to run the carbs dry.

I use Marine Grade Stabil, the blue/green stuff in my generator which sits unused for months and sometimes a year or more with no carb issues whatsoever. I keep the tank topped off.

Disconnect the fuel pump to run the carbs dry.

The VMax 1200 hates to sit unused. Many carbs that come through my shop have a pale green haze on the surfaces below the fuel level. I believe this substance settles out of the fuel with unuse. While it's easy enough to remove from the float chamber surfaces it will accumulate inside the...

1985 Front fork Air crossover (Name) tube

If it doesn't interfere with your spacing you could probably eliminate the tube, or cap the fittings if you do need the spacers.

Are you running any air pressure in the new set up?

    Rebuilding carbs

I have never seen a replacement seat that far out of spec....however every one I have measured is .002" - .004" undersize, and I've measured hundreds of them. Polish up your OEM ones and put them back in. As you mentioned, the replacement seats will push back out with very little pressure. I...

Are the Rotor Bolts made out a Chesse

Dremel a screwdriver slot, apply some heat, use the appropriate socket in your impact tool set, pre-load to the left (Good tip FM) and tap it out. Lots of horror stories out there about hammer strike impacts...don't believe them! Learn how to use the tool properly and you'll never have a...

    Running on 1 cylinder?

Remove the 4 carb drain hoses and open drain screws. May find the hoses are plugged and all carbs are getting fuel. +1 to Kyle's post....time to get in them carbs.

Plug cap cleaning, wire replacement service

ARGH! This is obviously pertains to the Gen I 85 - 07 Vmax but I put it in the Gen II forum. Could a mod move this to the Gen I - Electrical section please? Thanks.

Plug cap cleaning, wire replacement service

What I was thinking...offer a viable option at a reasonable price, keep the bike's original equipment and get that "like new" power back.

Plug cap cleaning, wire replacement service

Plug caps are a common area of corrosion accumulation and often ignored. Send me your plug caps with wires, I will clean the internal components and send them back with new wire attached. PM me for particulars.

    Coil video

Here's another myth - "increased performance from coil over plugs" (cop's). You can have that same performance increase with a little routine maintenance. - clean and di-electric grease your coil cap contact points. Below is an image of a MaximX coil cap with a top bend. Vmax is identical...
