    Best stock carb kit

Agree FM, it can't make any difference at all. I just use the o-ring first to hold the 'E' tube in place while attaching the gasket & jet block...but a personal preference thing for sure.

And I do the opposite of FM...put the 'E' tube in, slide the o-ring on, then the gasket, then the jet block. If the float seat is in good condition it does not need replacing...toothpaste on a Q-tip lightly spun in a drill will put a bright smile on them. If they need replacing jack them out...

'85 low serial #0286 spotted on Facebook Market place

2nd gear is fine FM. This is the bike I bought from Cali, had shipped east. Sold it and here it is about 3,000miles later on FB Marketplace. A very good bike and nice example of a pure stock '85 VMax.

Help with where these o-rings go.

Push it up with a C clamp. As Capt. K said, it's rarely needed. Just polish the seat with some toothpaste on a Q-tip and rinse well. If you need to replace the seat (and can't polish and re-use it) be sure to mic the aftermarket one...most are .002" - .003" undersize. OEM seats are recommended.

Help with where these o-rings go.

In order of size - small to large: - mixture screw - purge jet under slide cover - drain screw - main jet access plug - 'E' tube under jet block - float chamber cover access plug and 'E' tube o-rings are close to the same diameter - the thicker one goes on the access plug

Check part numbers for your switch for both year bikes on a vendor site like Revzilla...if they are the same they will be interchangeable.

Carb jetting confusion... are jets this small common?

Rule of thumb...if you didn't re-jet to make it run bad then you don't need to re-jet to make it run better. So...what did you do? You let the bike sit for a few weeks. What is the normal result from that? Dirt, scale, evaporated gas residue...in other words, dirty carbs. Solution - clean the...
