    Cases are split..

Funny how a piccie of an open Max gearbox triggers a conversation about touring :) Yes I often thought about the 5th OD gear - if I still lived in FL I would DEFO put one in. But here in Western Australia, where our max speed limit is 110 km/h (68mph) and is a helluva lot more enforced than in...

    Cases are split..

.. I'm ready ready to get my 2nd gear fixed! I have the new (s/h) tranny ready to go in, tomorrow I'm going to the local Yam stealers to use their hydraulic press to swap all the gears from the new output shaft to my old one - I never knew before but it's best to keep the old shaft/middle gear...

Jerks forward and stalls going from neutral to first

Did you get a change of weather at all? If it goes a bit colder, the oil will thicken, and when putting it in 1st gear the first time in the morning that can often happen. It's normal, the thicker cold oil just makes the clutch disks stick a bit until warmed up. Whenever I start from cold...

    Tires and rear end lowering

Indeed no radials in stock sizes. If you want to go radials you new new wheels. Any 13" decent rear shocks, OEM fitment or Progressive for example, will raise the rear back to its original height. At the front however, a few things may have happened if the bike was lowered: - the forks may...

    Very High Idle

Just saw you replaced the TCI unit - just checking your replacement came from a same year bike? I would try swapping it back just to see what happens. How are all your choke levers working?

    Clutch replacement how to?

I replaced the friction plates on an '86 I sold that was slipping - took 20mns tops and I didn't soak the plates either. Worked perfectly :)

    Very High Idle

Have you had the carbs off and apart? If so, are you sure they are refitted together as a rack nice and straight? Also, did you check for a rough sync on the bench as a starting point? Have you check your coasting enrichers are in good nick? If the diaphragms are shot there's a strong chance...

    Vmax Killer

Defo a super cool bike, even if it's a Hardley! Glad to hear it's coming over here :) Did the buyer find it online or ask you to look for something like that? What kind of money are you looking for Dave? I may be interested in including it in my next batch.. Also can you look at the VIN...

I concur. Keep it black, with blue piping to match the paint.

    What does this diode do

The diode in question is actually a diode block - it contains a number of diodes. Valve Job Virgin

Totally OK to leave it open, and yes throw a blanket or something over to keep the dust out You simply pull the spark plug covers off, and then you need a long thin-walled 18mm socket to reach the plugs' nut. Unscrew, take out, inspect. Light tan on electrodes is good. Black/suity means...

    turn signal problem

OK if a known to be good blinker doesn't work, then you need to try replacing your blinker relay as they can be moody, and if that doesn't work you'll need to follow those wires that connect to it. First make sure the earth one is properly grounded - you should get a reading of near 0Ω on an...

    turn signal problem

Most of the time those problems originate in the bulb holder. Check that the inner earth surface the bulb screws into isn't corroded, check the bit that connects to the bulb's *** tip isn't corroded lubricate both with dialectric grease (amazing that stuff) make sure the spring action of + tip...

    Nice guy award for DMAN999

Dennis took the time to convert my carb rebuild thread into PDF format, so so much easier for everyone to download / print / use. That's worth a proper nice guy award in my book! :clapping::clapping::clapping:

    Unidentified component in wiring harness

This diode is defo part of the OEM wiring - it allows current to flow one way but not the other. From memory it has to do with the side stand/clutch/starter button circuitry. Either that, or the fuel light, I just can't remember.
