Congrats on your purchase a legendary motorcycle. Vmax riders are a breed apart, you will be amazed at the brotherhood we have compared to riders of other bikes.

Your experience has turned me off to recommending this APX12220 a supposed stronger version of the UB12280 I had before. Apparently, the quality has dropped in the last few years. Mine is 2 years old now and still works Great But you and a few others have posted bad experiences with the APEX...

Actually the Vmax engine guards do their intended job pretty well, I put my 2000 in a ditch a few years ago and if I didn't have them my lower engine case/stator cover would have been trashed. But since I did have them, the engine case just got scratched up. They are obviously intended to bend...

I keep mine at about 3/4 of the way up the sight glass and have never had an issue.

Good catch, I just looked on the bottle and it does say 1 oz per 5 gallons, which is what I use. I always just do what it says on the bottle. Also there are a few places that claim to have pure gas here but they are 45 minutes to an hour away which is why I don't bother with it.

Those OEM screws are notorious for stripping, I personally had to use a dremel tool and cut a straight slot in one of mine and used a flat head screwdriver (with most of my body weight on it) to get one out a few years ago. If yours is too far gone for you to get out, I'd take it to a machine...

Depending on how much you weigh you could always just look for a set of OEM shocks off of a newer Vmax with low miles on them. I do remember someone posting about disassembling the stock shocks so I'm sure it's possible to disassemble them and possibly replace the OEM springs with stronger...

That looks Great and I'm glad to see you also replaced the rear reflector with a brake light. I really like the look of the CBR tail light on a Vmax but after riding behind quite a few at Thunder noticed that they are Very hard to see during the day. They are Very bright and extremely noticeable...

Here's an updated picture of the LED cat eye I used. I angled and slid my plate up farther under it with a few brackets so it is lit up as required by NYS. I'm Very happy with how it looks compared to the stock light and it is at least twice as bright as the stock running and brake light.

DynoJet 160's are equal to Mikuni 150's. Look at the chart on the first page of this thread. I would NOT run DJ150 mains, that's way too lean.

I'd look into upgrading your front Brakes to 4 pot or even 6 pot calipers, there is plenty of info about doing that on this forum. Also Aftermarket fork springs like Progressive Brand or Racetech help a LOT. The difference they make from the soft stock fork springs is amazing.

Most people don't like the stock rear shocks But I personally have always been very happy with them on my 2000 Vmax. I weigh 180-185 lbs. and keep them set at 2 (top - damping) and 2 (bottom - preload) for everyday riding and set them at 3 and 3 if I am going to be running hard in the twisties...

I don't have any 14" or 15" wheels for you But I will definitely keep my eyes open and if I see any available I'll certainly let you know.
