1st Gen V-Max Thanks for letting me Join the forum I'm from the UK

Perfectly happy to meet in Cambridge! Hilarious that you really are a midwife attending births on a bike! I bet some of your clients are shocked... Weekends better for me but could manage a weekday at a push. 18th or 19th? 25th or 26th? Needs to be a dry day really for a fairweather biker like me.

I think that the A10 would take you to King's Lynn. Maybe akbostman and I could meet you in Downham Market or Ely?

I love the speedblocks and Competition Yellow!

    Flywheel cover won't come off

Yes it will just be sticking on the dowels and held in place by the magnets. It should rock a bit north to south (not east to west) and come off the gasket, the dowels and the magnets.

From which direction would you be coming to West Norfolk/South Lincs?

That's nothing - I am working in Benin, West Africa at the moment! A pub lunch sounds a great idea though. I am around after mid May. Can we agree a date in June perhaps?

Just bought a house in Long Sutton, Lincolnshire, so I am just across the county border.

    Neutral light issue

Actually there is no cover and if you look underneath the middle drive cover at about 7 o'clock you should see the white neutral switch. Access not too easy but the only way to improve it is to get the engine out of the frame so you will just have to try hard! Here is a picture showing the...

    Neutral light issue

The neutral switch works when a plunger on the end of the shift cam touches the contact on the neutral switch. If all the wiring is OK then drain the oil, remove the three countersunk screws of the white plastic neutral switch and rotate it out. This will allow you to check/clean the plunger and...

Motorycle For Sale 2002 Vmax 1200

Maybe the extra money is for the automatic throttle? Turn bars to the left and she's wide open without bothering the twistgrip.

    FJ1300 Goods / Bads

Lovely condition for an old Goldwing. FJR is a superior bike but that is not the point. Sorry that you were let down so badly, I would have been just as annoyed as you. Easy for me to say from this side of the pond, but it has to be a risk you accept when buying and selling from individuals .

    FJ1300 Goods / Bads

My FJR1300 developed what I thought was an injector fault. It would run fine until I opened the throttle wide, then it would hesitate. Put all sorts of injector cleaner in the petrol (gas) with no effect whatsoever. Turned out that it was a fuel filter blockage. There is a white plastic filter...

    FJ1300 Goods / Bads

I have had an XS1100 since new for 40 years and the gearbox is certainly agricultural, but it has never gone wrong in 90,000 miles. That is just mine however and of course generally the second gear fault is well known. It does make me wonder what proportion did develop the fault, and how much of...

    FJ1300 Goods / Bads

I have had an FJR1300 for twenty years and it is an excellent bike. Early models such as mine had a cam chain tensioner recall where a new one was fitted (I did mine) and that is all I know of that potentially goes wrong. Shamefully I have only done 20,000 on mine. Checked the shims at 17000 and...

    Need Help!

Another thing to consider is that the carb slides are not operated by the throttle cable of course, only the butterflies. Perhaps when you assemble the airbox sufficient vacuum is created above the slides that the slides rise and although there may not be much air getting in, the extra fuel...

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

Just keep wiggling - the mufflers have to detach from four headers probably with the original Yamaha muffler gaskets that just get all mashed up and prevent the lateral movement you need to separate the mufflers from the headers.

    Low compression repair options

As mentioned above, the obvious point is to make sure that the throttle is wide open when running the test and keep the engine turning over until the needle does not go any further round the dial. (Assuming analogue kit here!) It is possible to take the front cylinder head off (just!) and...
