    Oil level myth

"So the question is How can the gas get into oil pan?" I have experienced this issue and found that if you have your fuel/air mixture screws set toooo far out in numbers of turns the carbs will bleed fuel from the fuel bowls into the intake runners over-night & seep past the rings. A quick...

    17" Dymag front wheel/speedo

There is a speedo gear change that is a direct bolt-on and it will give you a true reading with the 17" wheels, I just can't remember the model/type, it might have been a speedo gear from a FZR etc. I know once you get the correct model/type you can purchase it on E-Bay etc.

    Low engine compression.

The method I use maybe correct and/or incorrect but provides me with consistent data. First remove the carburetors & all the sparkplugs. I use what we will call a click #1 reading then a click #5 reading for each cylinder. I generally perform this on my engine test stand which allows for no...

    Low engine compression.

Did you perform the compression test with the carburetor rack removed or with the slides & butterfly valves fully open?

    Setting valves and horsepower

On a fresh rebuild I always use .006 intake and .010 exhaust, once the engine has approximately 2K ~ 3K miles I'll go back and re-set the intakes to a .004~.005 to help quite things down.

Steering Stem Bearings on a 1989

I have a self expanding bearing removal tool that you draw up into the frame neck just past the edge of the outer race then you drive it back out and the race is carried out with the tool. I'll try to get you a pic of the tool. The welding process works well also, just draw a bead on the old...

Steering Stem Bearings on a 1989

You have the correct part numbers for the upper & lower bearings, the only other thing you might want to check into is OD bearing race removal tool. The old outer bearing race can be a pain to remove without the proper tool.

    cant change gear

Abalus, The first thing I would be doing is to flush & bleed the hydraulic clutch system. If that doesn't solve your issue next I would rebuild the clutch master cylinder & clutch slave cylinder. Good Luck & keep us posted as to what resolves your issue.

    ID of wire harness

Count the number of pins in the connector from the main harness that connects to the pickup coil harness from the engine, if it has two pins it is for 1990~2007 if it has several pins it is for 1985~1989

Yamaha Stator Coil Oil Cooling Kit

This stator cooling kit has been around for many years, I've have worked on a lot of V-max engines & never seen one without the kit installed from Yamaha. Maybe it was intended for the older Venture engines (1983~1984)? A quick check would be to remove the tuning fork emblem from the stator...

    Hose clamps spring steel type

Like Sean, I've had no issue with the OEM tension type clamps @ the heads with the Samco brand after market hose kits. Are you using a good set of Duck-bill type plyers that allow you to fully open the clamps? Maybe add some lubricant to the outside surface of the hose to help.

    RPMS/ gen 1

Most gen 1 Vmaxs don't make additional HP above 9300~9500 RPM. I set my shift light @ 9200 RPM to allow for brain scan-time, hoping I'll have shifted some ware around 9400. But I'm old LOL!

    Stage 7 needles

Dale, A few things can cause the issue you are having. While installing the needle into the slide you must have the dart/*** on the nylon needle retainer seated properly into the small hole in the diaphragm slide. Also if you are using an aggressive clip position like clip #4 or #5 this can...
