95 Vmax middle bearing retainer issue

Ndulucky13, That is half of a bevel gear set mounted @ that end of the shaft behind the bearing & once you dump a lot of throttle you create a lot of pressure.

95 Vmax middle bearing retainer issue

Ndulucy13, You maybe on to something there, one or two worked them-self loose & away they go!

95 Vmax middle bearing retainer issue

Sean, I've seen one with all four bolt heads "POPPED-OFF" The only thing that makes any sense to me is possibly the transmission output shaft might have been shimmed incorrectly (too tight end-to-end within the case housing) and once the engine reaches normal temps coupled with shaft growth POP?

    Must be new math

If you look closely during the video you can see some smoke raising in front of the camera, I think it is from a crack pipe!

    header pipe discoloring?

Matt, A couple of things will cause the SS pipes to discolor. Carb fuel mixture setup? Does the new set have ceramic coating on the inside of the pipes? Wall thickness of the pipes? & as you mentioned the type/grade of SS. To see some slight yellowing/gold color near the heads can be normal...

2005 1500 Vmax w/ fuel injection on Ebay?

Yes that appears to be the wild brothers setup. Keep in mind there are two version of this fuel injection system both having programmable fuel mapping capabilities, the higher end version is also a self taught system & easy to setup. The non-self taught system can be very difficult to setup.

Carb sync - valve adjustment indicator?

Danny, If I remember correctly 26 KPA's = 19 inches of lift / 200 mm hg's / 7.88 inches of hg's. I don't work with too many Cal bikes but the spec's call for them to run higher 33+KPA's maybe they also require a higher idle speed?

Carb sync - valve adjustment indicator?

Miles, You must be one of the lucky ones! If I understand the 600 mile service requirement ( 1st warranty checkup @ 600 miles from the dealership) one of the many things they are paid by Yamaha to inspect is the valve clearance checks & adjust as required. In most cases the dealer/stealer never...

Carb sync - valve adjustment indicator?

Miles, While performing a carb sync with the engine @ operating temps, I will generally look for a few indicators. What is the value of the overall vacuum level once all carbs have been leveled-off @ 1000rpm, (is this value within recommended range) and/or while setting the vacuum level across...

    Erratic Idle when hot

What is the voltage level at idle while engine/stator is @ 1000rpm ~ 1100rpm & the engine is @ operating temp? You have already confirmed/replaced plug coils. Confirm ohm readings of pickup coil. What is the condition of your plug wires & resistor plug caps? When was the last time your valve...

    Oil Contamination to Cooling System?

My thought process would be if a head gasket is the cause of the issue you would be seeing coolant in the motor oil due to the pressures created cylinders. vs. oil in the coolant system.

Carb tune done with Cobra Slip ons

+1 to Sean, This sounds like a case of the mixture being too rich! If your stumble is in the range of 4000RPM ~ 5000RPm I would be removing any type of shims from the stock needles, & back down on the fuel mixture screws. The Cobra's generality work well (- a few ponies) with a completely stock...

    Oil Contamination to Cooling System?

After reading through all of the posts related to this issue and many have supplied good info, I would go back to the fact that you never mentioned any oil weeping from the water pump weep hole? So this rules out any type of water pump oil seal issue. The breather housing can be one the causes...

    Weight of Engine

I always tell them 258lbs. when mounted on a skid/pallet shipping by ground. I did get caught while shipping by air fright and with a completely in closed crate, they put is on a scale and it weighed 312lbs.

Venture engine with Vmax carbs tuning?

+ one to PatMax, I would also be concerned if the Venture cam timing being Phased properly/as the V-Max engines. I maybe mistaking but the Venture engines are phased @ 70 degrees between the front & rear cylinder banks. The V-Max engines are phased @ 430 degrees between the front & rear...

    Stator and flywheel ?

The flywheel shield/cup looks to have some slight damage along the edges maybe due to someone using the wrong type of flywheel puller? As to the brown/orange stuff that is the adhesive that is used to hold the shield/cup in-place. I've heard of others running with the shield/cup removed. My...

    spark plug

I would agree with Sean & Rusty, Your rim color indicates a good setup for the low speed fuel circuits. The gray color anode with the totally white porcelain is a very good sign for a stock setup. If your desire is to gain a little more torque you could bump-up the main jets one size allow some...

    Vboost quit again!

You may want to check and make sure your V-boost cable adjustment is correct? I've seen when there is too much tension on the cable adjustment this will cause the servo motor to stall during the calibration cycle. A quick check is to loosen the cable adjustment screw allowing the cable to relax...

2014 Thunder in the Valley - PA

Pete, Due to some of us will be unable to ride and/or bring our V-maxes Tyler & I will be having an open house type tech session each day in addition to the Friday scheduled one. I'll make sure to bring a portable compressor to help with your carb issues.

    Float needles

While the bike has been parked overnight/sitting for some time the fuel inlet valves generally will not cause seepage into the engine due to the fuel pump is off and not adding pressure to each fuel bowl. My experience with this same type of startup issue after the bike has been sitting for some...
