    Another starter clutch thread....

All the V-Max starters 2 pole and/or 4pole do NOT fully seat into the block. This gap of a 1/4" is very normal. I would bet you are dealing with a loose or damaged starter clutch.

    Another starter clutch thread....

I had a guy ship me his V-Max motor thinking he needed a rebuild due to the motor sounded like it was coming apart. I pulled the oil pan & valve covers, found nothing wrong. Re-installed the oil pan & covers then dropped the motor into my engine test-stand tried to fire it up & sure enough this...

    Bummer!!

If you find that it is not the hose clamp the next thing I would take a look at is the "O" ring that seals the top cover.

    Need Direction

GT390, If you haven't removed the carbs as of yet I have had some success with force feeding carb cleaner (Berrymans B-12 from Auto Zone etc.) in the PAJ-1 jets while the engine is running. With your air box still removed get the bike started & maintain it running by means of the choke or a...

    scavenging

Re-Degree your cam timing with slotted sprockets, these values have worked well for me to reduce scavenging. Intake lobe center 105~106 & Exhaust lode center 109~110

    Novo michigan motorcycle swap meet

I've been to this swap meet a few times, 80% Harley parts etc. My recommendation is if you never been to one the give it a try. Also now that the Detroit fair-grounds swap meet is no more going to be an event you might see more metric stuff.

    My hybrid engine

+1 Steve, I have been involved with many V-max engine rebuilds & mixing of cases is not the way to go. I know of one guy that did decide to mixes his cases due to a broken motor mount & the only way he was able to get somewhat of a good alignment & bearing fits was to remove the doll-pin that...

    Oil canister bolt

I just checked also & yes the part numbers are the same for both the V-Max & Vanture. Now that I think about it, I'm wondering if the manifold bolt I used was from an old 1100cc? The bolt was slightly shorter then the OEM?

    Oil canister bolt

While you could say it was like at the drag strip! Marco & I were blasting through all the gears @ max RPM when this happened, I still beat him then were winding things down when the engine locked-up. I found the article it is on page #8 of the 2007 spring V-Boost, the measurements of the new...

    Oil canister bolt

Sean, My experience with this issue several years ago was I had a rebuilt stock motor that I had been running around on with 4K + miles on it & everything was good. Then I spotted a chrome filter housing & manifold bolt on E-bay of course I couldn't hold back, (I've been known to like these...

    Oil canister bolt

Don, Some of the above methods mentioned will work well, weld a nut, socket, convert to the spin-on etc. But if you decide to replace the oil filter manifold bolt make sure that your replacement is for a V-MAX engine (OEM PART ONLY) not for a venture engine, etc.. I went down that road only to...

Clutch Basket Thrust Washer??? HELP HELP HELP

Yes, the thrust washer is designed to float between the inner hub & outer basket. Push it beyond the spline & let it drop slightly, then install your inner hub!

Does anyone know what is this for?

That is your waist gate pressure relief valve for the supercharger. Generally they are adjustable to allow for different manifold pressures.

    year of motor.

I Don't have the cross-reference chart that give the motor year. But I do know if the motor is the original one built with your bike the last four numbers stamped on the block (lower LH side over the middle gear housing) will match the last four numbers of the vin stamped on your frame.

Leak - Clutch Push Rod - 85 max

Your 85 motor may have the pushrod oil gland installed backwards? If so this will consume a % of space needed for the pushrod seal to seat. The bad news is if this is your issue you will have to split the cases to correct the problem.

    Electronic Torque Wrenches

I would recommend the electronic/digital torque wrenches from Cornwell Tools. I had recently purchased a 3/8 & ? inch drive and very satisfied with both of them. Keep in mind you are going to spend some cash, but for the accuracy they are well worth the money. Don Bricker is a Cornwell Tool rep...

Twietedmax, I don't think the MM will ever go away unless I just get rid of all my Maxes. Each winter I set & think about more things to modify. My Dr. says it's a sickness LOL
