    American Pickers-Mike Wolfe collection auction

Hmmm patina or a heap of rust? I don't think my pockets are deep enough for these type of machines, nor do I have to any particular inkling to own them. Its always a dilemma on how far and how much is to be restored. My approach is to have something that looks decent and is usable - I have...

    1200 running hot

Have you balanced the carbs? If you still want to measure the temperature then the temperature of the headers at the same place would be more meaningful than measuring at the cylinder heads - as MM said the casting thickness may be different or the coolant flow path different or other reasons...

    Starting restoration and additions

OK, that makes sense. Mine was a Canadian import with kmh speedo. I managed to source one in moh from the US which had a mileage reading within 10% _ not that it mattered as on first registration it could have been set to any value. An alternative is to change the clock face. Not quite...

    Starting restoration and additions

A second speedometer? Why stop at two? Old Chinese proverb: man with one watch knows the time, man with two watches is never sure. Same goes with speedometers. BTW the original speedo has a reed switch that is utilised by the self cancelling turn signal module.

IMO the anniversary model is the one to have. ;) Looks in vgc and original apart from the forward controls. Are the turn signal lenses original? I believe at some point in the gen 1 production run they were changed from orange /amber to clear.

no. this would inidcate an issue with the wiring or the switch. here's the wiring diagam - some possilities: - the ho-lo switch is not disconnecting the hi beam - problem with the bulb holder wiring - problem in the loom As a first step, unplug the connectors to the switch (bottom left in...

    Looking for advice

There was corrosion on mine. From memory there is some kind of coating that when removed, exposes the cast aluminium. The aluminium is not an even colour so looks ****. I sprayed it in silver but later replaced it with one in better condition. If I had not found that part, it would have been...

    Fitting 12v battery gauge/Monitor

Sure it is small but to be fair, when I'm riding, I'm looking at the road ahead and what's around me, knowing what the voltage is is low on the list. Thousands of Vmax gen 1 were sold and I would guess very few have voltage guages, why do you feel you need one, if battery and charging system?

    Fitting 12v battery gauge/Monitor

At one point in time, I was looking at fitting one of these to the instrument cluster (gen 1) to replace the blanked off oval lamp area.

Interests or hobbies not related to motorbikes

I'm surprised noone else has commented about these, but that is most impressive. I'm guessing you don't have a full time job ad it must take considerable amount of time to fabricate those, stainless steel is a hard, pun intended, metal to work with. Re. the dragon's body, do you weld it up...

    Damn wind

If it's parked on the road, can you not put a few paving slabs in front of the blue bin and put the bike there? If you don't have a dropped curb, make a small ramp from wood. I did wonder whether a car cover, acting as a sail would be have enough force to tip the bike over, must be annoying...

How to fix neutral light , tachometer gauge not working.

Now that you mention it, the plastic covering on wires can change colour when stretched and strands breaking - that's the more likely reason.

How to fix neutral light , tachometer gauge not working.

Nice find. The end of the wire looks to be a different colour, like would happen if it over heated. Quite possibly some copper strands broke resulting in the current passing through fewer strands to cause localised heating. We can speculate all evening but it's fixed. Happy thanksgiving. ;)

    Can't bleed rear brakes

I'm offering a suggestion, no idea if it will work but can't see it can make it any worse. Ideally you want somebody who has gone through this. I'm gen 1 so no fancy electronic wizardry.

    Can't bleed rear brakes

Ah the joys of complex electronic components. No idea if this will work but maybe you need to have the ignition on so the ABS is powered?

    Gen 3 vmax?

This question has been asked at least twice before but bear with me. My main driver is a Volvo 850 T5 estate which reaches 0-60 mph in about 7 seconds. That's not too shoddy for such a heavy car. I've been driving my friend's car, a Fiat 500 electric and whilst I've not pushed it to the...

2001 vmax new throttle cables too big for holder connector?

Agreed. Had that happen in my first car a white Ford ****I. Was coming to a T junction , took foot off the gas pedal but it made no difference.... and there was a solid brick wall ahe. Luckily I managed to reach down and pull up the pedal by hand. Needless to say I fixed the problem so it...

    oil leak on exhaust pipe

^^^^ good suggestion In the past I've used talcum powder, (on your side of the pond it's probably called fanny dust) it is packaged in plastic containers with a lid with holes. Squeezing the container you.can dust the appropriate area.

    Air Shifter install Problem

Not sure I follow your question. An air shifter uses compressed air to operate. (clue's in the name) I've not come across an air horn on a motorcycle, the vast majority are electric. Is your question about switching the electrical supply or the air supply? Unless the horn is an...
