    Puzzled.

No. A solenoid will have 4 terminals. The two output ones are chunky copper threaded posts, (M10?) one of which is connected to the battery, the other post goes to the starter motor. See photo below. You will notice the blue/white wire so what has happened to the 4th terminal I hear you ask...

Hold off trying to jump lead the starter for now, since you saw the starter motor turn over so for now let's assume it is OK. What have you done to it since that moment? You've replaced the battery yet you showed photo of 4 leads that were not connected - why was that? Maybe worth...

Can you confirm we are working to the same diagram, 1985-1989 US model. This has starter relay with blue white wire, the other wires is red and goes to the battery, and black to the starter motor. Also according to the manual the starter cut off relay and turn signal is one unit with 9...

    1st Gen V-Max My 2001 VMax

Hello. That's very clean, and you took that photo almost immediately as you still have the dealers label on the ignition key.

You may want to remove the headlamp bulb as that is draining the battery when ignition is on, no harm leaving it I it just buys you more time as you investigate before needing to charge the battery. According to the manual, the pre 1990 models have a combined flasher and starter inhibitor...

I suggest you measure voltage at brown wire at ignition swith when igniton is turned on again. If it is still 0v, then you need to take the ignition switch apart as the contacts or not working. oops .... just seen MM is saying the same thing.....

I'm sure you have but did you check if the fan turns on?

Batterie replacement and coil corosion clean up.

Exactly as you suppose. The solder improves electrical conductivity. Additional to what's been said, I would recommend smearing some flux over the joint, this helps the solder flow, you also need a relatively heavy duty soldering iron, I'd guess 60w, so not a tiddler designed for...

Any UK members using this forum?

This would be a good opportunity to post a photo of the first gen 2 I have seen, near Manchester. (Yet to see a Gen 1 out of the garage). This looks clean and pretty much standard, perhaps smaller rear indicators. It was a lot smaller than I envisioned, a lot of tech compacted in a small space.

Firemedic beat me to it. Generally on cars and motorcycles, there is a ground loom, rather than using the steel chassis or frame as the ground. Steel is a relatively poor conductor of electricity and rusts which can degrade the contacts. That's why for example you have a 2 wires to...

    Dented Delkevic!

I don't think the football will exert enough pressure for that, but who knows. If it is stainless steel, I would try to weld a bolt to the centre of the dent and use a bar with a hole that would allow the bolt to be pulled. Photo below shows such a tool that uses glue to attach the puller bit...

It is not easy to diagnose problems at a distance without knowing what is being done or what experience with car/bike electrics the person has. Firstly, when checking continuity, either with an analogue or digital voltmeter, the bike battery shoujld be disconnected at poistive. The way the...

Hello, and what's up with it? If you use the search facility, most likely the issues will have been covered.

    Water pump leaking oil

That's the correct decision. Why risk damage to the engine to save a few $$$ - almost certain what you paid is less than potential engine repairs or replacement.

    Issue over 4k RPM

What do you mean by broke? The plugs were worn or....?

We can rule out the change of location as the cause. Is the battery connected the right way round? And of at least the same Ah capacity as OEM? Now that may sound a stupid question but there have been 2 occasions posted on here when it wasn't - I don't remember the details but in one case...

    Puzzled.

I don't understand the problem. Are you saying pressing starter dims the headlamp and starter relay clicks (is correct operation) but the engine is not turned over by the starter? I don't understand why the flasher relay is mentioned, that has nothing to do with the starting. What condition...

    Bucket List Vmax

20+ years outside in nevada!?!?!!!?? The red switches would be bleached to pure white, most of the plastic may well be brittle due to the UV. On the positive side, no rust. Able to post a photo or 2?

1st Gen V-Max Finally got my VMAX after 25 years.

I guess you can experiment but it never ceases to amaze me why people think they know better than the engineers at yamaha who designed and tested the bike. It's an old thread, have you done the vinyl wrap and photo s?

    What are you wearing?

CheersI'll look into that. I should have mentioned that my main hobby is cycling (mountain biking to be exactly) so my legs are larger than average hence why the trousers are tight, add some heat and I'm in trouble. I've considered using talc but that's bordering on weird.
