    Carburetor differences! Understanding the changes...

The one on the left, is that a California model carb?

    Oil leak from carburetors?

It is just a breather hose so you can splice it to another same size hose if need be. I found that removing the fuel pump and going in through there was the easiest way. The amount of time I spent trying to get it on tucked up in there and removing the pump, it took about a quarter of the time.

    Oil leak from carburetors?

Yea it should have one of those wire spring clips. A real pain to get on when putting it back together.

Oil Leak Out of Exhaust Port #1

It looks to be smoking out the right-side pipe. Not a good sign. I would give it a compression test and see how much difference there is between cylinders.

    Oil leak from carburetors?

It's like a breather that goes to the base of the airbox. It may not be connected as the little nipple the hose attaches to isn't very big. Pull the top off the airbox and you will see it in the center at the rear of the base of the box..

    Won't shift past 3rd gear

Have you tried a magnet on a stick that you can get from an auto parts store? Go in through that hole below the fiber gear. Just poke it around in there and see if anything sticks. Also check all the parts you took out like the clutch etc.

    Mesh Jacket

I bought a Vance mesh jacket with a removable water resistant liner. I’ve only had it a couple of months but so far I am impressed with it. It has removable armor in the elbows and back. Hopefully I won’t need those but just in case. Good airflow and a Great price on Amazon or Team motorcycle in FL.

Yea that is true but I think the Max was a little behind. It was first introduced at the Yamaha dealer conference in Vegas October 1984. From what I read was the production started slow at first then took off. Yes the 25 model cars will be out soon. Cheers.

    Restoration help

There is some good advise there on the clutch. Try bleeding it first. I wouldn’t worry about doing the valve shims. They are a very strong motor and built to take a hammering. Get it running first and determine what else it will need but hopefully nothing. A great cause you are doing this for...

Hi all. I have an 85 Max which I bought in CA new in April of 1985. It was originally the deep maroon, but I painted it black after about 6 months. Next year I will have owned it for 40 years. It has been on and off the road in the last 20 years, but I have just completed a freshen up and are...
