1st Gen V-Max Idle rough when hot

Test your charging voltage when the fan kicks on. Might be a charging issue.

    Neutral light issue

Sounds like issue with neutral switch or the switch wire contacting ground somewhere.

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

Inspected some shift parts. 2 of 3 forks are bad, as is the drum and one of the shift fork rods. Broke carb rack into singles for a cleaning.

    Carbuator questions

Use any self tapping screw and turn it in a couple turns. Then pullout with a pliers.

    Carbuator questions

Yep, on installation just a bit of glue and then easy press fit. The air corrector is required when using individual filter pods to restrict air through the main air jet. This air mixed with fuel from the main fuel jet. I think the Morley airbox mod requires them too.

    Carbuator questions

Sorry for misinformation, my post had been deleted. Here’s a picture of the main air jet without the air corrector.

    Starter clutch

For middle gear, would need to remove rear wheel, final drive, swingarm and pull out the output middle gear assembly.

Should overflowing gas drain thru vent hose? (Picture) Please verify. Thanks.

If float/float valves aren't functioning correctly, yes. Check needle valves, float, float tang, bent float pivot pin, etc.

    Throttle issues

Clutch is slipping it seems. To test, sit on it and put front wheel against wall. Shift to fifth, 4000 rpms and dump clutch. If clutch is ok will stall.

    07 thermostat

You'll have to take all that apart anyway to get the thermostat out so I'd replace all the drain valve o-ring, o-rings on both sides of the coolant elbow between the water pump and thermostat, in addition to the o-ring between the thermostat cover and housing.

    07 thermostat

Could be pipe where the drain valve enters too. There's an o-ring there and fits into bottom of thermostat.

    Ignition Leads

I go to any bike shop and buy the wire for $.50 per foot.

    Carb tune.

It wouldn't hurt but Peashooter doesn't always work and then need to take apart carbs to clean. Take a look at the purge jet #2 opening on the inside, past the o-ring. That and other holes are super tiny. Peashooter doesn't clean the purge jets.

    Carb tune.

It's part of the purge circuit which supplies a bit of air in front of and behind the slide to "monitor" pressure differential and open/close slide. the air has to go somewhere. Air from purge jet #1 (inner part of diaphragms ) and #2 (outer) exits out the mixture screw area. I included pics...
