What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

No, just loosen the bolts a bit. Say, couple of turns each to loosen the fitment. I cut down an 8 mm allen wrench and use that along with a box wrench since the rear inner fasteners are a bit difficult to get at.

It’s very unlikely he will be able to

    Low compression repair options

You can but the readings won’t mean anything since Yamaha has a range of readings based on not doing that.

    Low compression repair options

I’ve never propped the slides. Just open throttle all the way, charged battery and warm engine is all that Yamaha manual talks about.

    Low compression repair options

Think about doing a leak down to make sure valves aren't losing compression. For compression test, engine needs to be warmed up.

    Starter clutch still not engaging

Glad you found it! Reminds me of Space Balls and the Presidents ass on backwards.

    Any Ignition Thread

That's normal. When you first turn the key, power goes directly to the ignition coils and not from the ignitor/CDI. Once started, coils are fired when the ignition drops drops the ground.

The OIL thread. All oil related questions here.

I don't think you need to bother with that one. That cavity drains back into the main sump area so waste of time IMO. Better to get the lower middle gear cover bolt with the copper crush washer. When I removed my engine got some out of there and none out of the bigger bolt near the shifter shaft.

    Cobra Pipes and jetting.

I liked mine with competition end caps. Stock end cap was a muffled fart.

    Starter clutch still not engaging

Try taking out the idler gears and then turn the big ring gear by hand. It should turn freely clockwise and lock up counterclockwise. Mark

    Starter clutch still not engaging

The starter is fine as it's turning the correct way. The ring gear is turning counter clockwise which is correct. Starter power isn't being transmitted from that ring gear, through the starter clutch, to the crank.

    Starter clutch still not engaging

The starter and starter ring gear are spinning the correct direction. Something is off with the starter clutch.

    Carb synch issue

Check that the emulsion tube is tightly secure and Choke plungers are fully in. The choke linkages can be hokey too.

    Cracked threads in center hub

I'm wondering if someone used a home made tool or screwdriver to hold the clutch boss on those posts in order to remove the nut and inner clutch components from the shaft?

    Hand scribed numbers on block.

Dortmunder lager for me. Cheers all!

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

It took a few months to get here but determined transmission skip issue. The dogs/slots for 2nd gear are fairly worn. Both complete shafts are heading to Morley’s realm for repair and undercutting this week.

Kyle's Monkey bike? Needs to be finished.

C'mon guys, you're adding to Kyle's issue. Please shop for a larger garage/shed instead.

    Mid shaft again

I don't believe so. There's a small access port on top of swing arm but don't think it's big enough to get a wrench through. Probably best to remove it and see if there any damage to the u-joint or middle driven gear assembly.
