Gas quality and undesirable effects of ethanol fuel blends on a 1st gen VMAX

Sorry @Dorney if you got the impression I might get commission from Liqui Moly. This is not the case at all. My intension was purely to help @Tim spain since he is in Spain, Europe and lots of products pointed out here are either not available or extremely expensive in Europe. So also your Star...

Gas quality and undesirable effects of ethanol fuel blends on a 1st gen VMAX

If I was you (and i do that as a standard procedure) last ride in fall I fill up the tank, put LM in and run it for 100kms. Then top up and put the LM in again - never had a problem since years. Not on carbs, not on EFI's.

Gas quality and undesirable effects of ethanol fuel blends on a 1st gen VMAX

Hi Tim, on my experience (European gas) Ethanol is a real problem once you store your bike for longer periods (like for the wintertime). Bloody Ethanol cloggs jets and does all sorts of stupid stuff. What helped me and my old scooters is this product, which you should get in Spain...

LED headlight 1993 VMax suggestion ?

one of these ugly things: https://aliexpress.com/item/4000124954924.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2deu&spm=a2g0o.cart.0.0.36253c00HU9zn8&mp=1 just as an example, this wont look too difficult to fit. Ugly? well, for sure not half of the esthetics of the OEM 5,75" stuff - but Im sure the gain of light is...

LED headlight 1993 VMax suggestion ?

Sorry, but I cannot agree. Even as a "fresh" new Maxxer, I disagree with all due respect. To replace the bulb with a better bulb is giving you a tiny bit of a better light. To replace the bulb with a LED bulb is as helpful (for oncoming traffic) as you can imagine and getting a reflector...

LED headlight 1993 VMax suggestion ?

Just wondering if your LED "daymaker" fits in the stock bezel? I found some VMaxxers moved to 7" housings and LED's and I would rather prefer a 5.75" size, idially into the chrome OEM housing.

    3D Printed Carb Covers

You are very good at Fusion360! Did you ever try if the Priline PLA resists the heat? I have quite bad experience with PLA-CF, its kinda rubbish in my opinion if it comes to physical or temperature related challenges. My reflex would be using PA-GF, PA-ABS or if I am into colors, ABS. But I...

    FJ1300 Goods / Bads

Here in Europe we have Ethanol in our petrol, lead free. Each and every bike will suffer if it sits too long and the question which one will have bigger problems, those with carbs or those with EFI. Precaution is to fill a zip of an additive before winter into the tank and ride it so the...

    FJ1300 Goods / Bads

Amongst a number of touring bikes I also owned a FJR (2007). Here where I live, we have a number of mountain roads - you can compare it probably to Canadian mountains and I always enjoyed riding it. As I enjoyed the FJ 1200, FJ1100, the Suzuki Bandit 1200 and 1250. All reliable and good bikes...

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

These are forged rims, made in Germany and available in aluminum (like mine) or magnesium. As new they were sold for 3800 Euros in aluminum, I paid 1000 for both rims second hand. I start driving my Maxx with Pirelli Angel, the set was around 150 Euros.

Parts Wanted Valve Shim Tool Yamaha

Anybody having a valve shim shift tool around? Here in EC they cost around 100$ and I might not even need it, just want to have it - in case. And if I need it, I might need it just once... would be great to get it cheap but in working condition.

Rear shocks dilemma (...to upgrade or not to upgrade , this is the problem)

Interesting subject. On some of the German forum's they all suggest longer shocks on the rear. 330mm is the OEM, the larger number of riders are using 350mm shocks. Wilbers is more for the racer amongst us (1680€), Ohlins seems the more popular brand over here. Talking to the previous owner...

    1st Gen V-Max My VMAX 1992 white

@Tim spain Before investing in a new tire on a 15"rim, I would check with the authorities for your area (province). Here it depends and varies a lot between provinces and even more on countries. Surprisingly even some provinces in Germany are easier to homoligate than here in my province - it...

    1st Gen V-Max My VMAX 1992 white

Hi Tim, well Spain is EC and to swap out the rims and tires is a bit of a mess here - homoligation can get a huge issue. I got a '99 VMax as a XMas present from my lady and following "Fire-medic's" advice I was going to plan using 17" rims. Looking for more a low-cost solution I failed on...
