170 main jet with UFO StreetPro 4-2 and otherwise stock bike?

I got a reply from Mike at UFO over the weekend. Here's what he had to say: Dave We run a 165 main in all the customers bikes normally buy I run a 175 in all mine so I think you would be fine with the 170's. We set the needle in the 4th position down from the blunt end, turn the pilot...

Stickiest radial tires for stock 18" front and 18x5.5" rear?

After a little more thinking, my biggest point of concern at this point is cornering capabilities--or lack thereof--while running a 110/80 front tire. Despite the fact that it more-or-less fits, it's still pinched at the edges meaning that the contact patch gets smaller the farther leaned over...

How to oil a K&N, since the air filter has an inside -> out flow pattern?

K&N includes generic oiling instructions on their website. http://www.knfilters.com/cleaning.htm It doesn't address how to properly oil a filter where only one side is easily accessible to being sprayed.

How to oil a K&N, since the air filter has an inside -> out flow pattern?

Well, I wanted to ride so I tried to spray from the inside out a bit and then went over the white spots from the outside. '99 VFR800, '08 1125R, '06 1050, '91 F2, '03 DRZ400

How to oil a K&N, since the air filter has an inside -> out flow pattern?

Some had previously installed a K&N in my '03 and ridiculously overoiled it. I pulled it, cleaned the airbox, and am going to re-oil the filter. Problem is, as far as I can tell, air flow goes from the inside of the filter to the outside. If I oil the outside of the filter, won't that...

170 main jet with UFO StreetPro 4-2 and otherwise stock bike?

Thanks for the responses, guys. I'm pretty sure I found the problem. The carbs looked nice and clean inside, but when I blew carb cleaner through the jets, I got a lot of brown soupy stuff out. I pulled the lid from the airbox (I had removed it without taking off the lid) and found that there...

170 main jet with UFO StreetPro 4-2 and otherwise stock bike?

I bought an '03 Vmax with the UFO StreetPro 4-2 on it. I've got the carbs apart to clean them because the bike felt and sounded like it was running on three cylinders at 5000+ rpm. (It's fine at light/moderate throttle below 5000.) I noticed the main jets are 170s. I'm concerned those may be...

Stickiest radial tires for stock 18" front and 18x5.5" rear?

My '03 has a stock front wheel and an 18x5.5" in the rear. It's currently got a Battlax B023 110/80R18 up front and an Exedra G850 180/55R18 in the rear. I've found some decent 110/80 front tires like the Pilot Roads or Angels but none of the have matching 18" rears. With the 5.5" wheel, a 180...

Opinions on Mobil "V-twin" synthetic oil..

If a clutch slips with syn but not with dino, that suggests that syn is slipperier and therefore protects engine parts better. I've also literally never had a clutch slippage problem with a dozen bikes over 18 years of Mobil1 15W50 and, more recently, Amsoil 10w40. I'm of the opinion that if...

    Morley's 320mm Busa Brakes for 85-92

I'm kind of skeptical about running just one front brake. The Hayabusa goes a wee bit faster than a Vmax, but it also weighs a hundred pounds less. Adding 100 pounds and removing half of the front brake sounds like the rest would be underwhelming at best. The wildcard would be the master...

    The bike wave

The two finger wave is pretty universal, as is the helmet tap. I don't wave to scooters because a) they never wave back and b) they aren't real motorcyclists--to most scooter riders, it's a means of transportation, not a passion. I have literally never had a scooter rider wave to me first, or...

IL USA wheelie fine to be $1K

I'm gonna either have to give up wheelies (anyone want to buy a Speed Triple?) or be prepared to outrun the cops. '99 VFR800, '08 1125R, '06 1050, '91 F2, '03 DRZ400

    No 2008 VMax now!! Post-poned until 2009!

Track bike, as in road courses? Or did you mean dragstrip? I ask because I can't fathom how much work it would take to make the Vmax a competitive road course bike.

How Much $ For The New 2009 Vmax?

Man, I can't believe how many of you guys think this bike will be more than $14K. The new Vmax had better be $14K or under. If it reaches that price point, there is a very strong chance I'll buy one. (It would be the most expensive bike I've bought by far, but if it's good enough then I'll...

    front wheel upgrade?

You'll need to upgrade the rear wheel as well. In fact, I'd upgrade the rear first. You can get radial tires that will fit on the stock Vmax front wheel, but there's not a radial out there that will fit on the rear. So if you manage to get a 17" front wheel to work, you'll end up mixing a...

    VBoost Switch Or Lever Control???

Is a V-boost controller THAT expensive? Personally, I'd rather fix the bike the "right" way rather than using some rigged up deal.

Now this is a REAL fork brace

You mean, am I dragging any hard parts? No. By getting off the seat and weighting the inside peg, I can corner faster and with less lean angle than if I was seated straight up on the bike.

Now this is a REAL fork brace

I took my Max out for a backroads ride this weekend--hit more than a few twisties at or beyond twice their recommended speed. I was getting my ass off the seat and weighting the inside peg, track-day style. The solid motor mounts have apparently made a pretty big difference, as I didn't notice...

Now this is a REAL fork brace

What I don't understand is why you'd go through all the trouble to do those suspension mods, clearly aimed at improving handling, and then lower the bike 1.5 inches. The Vmax has pretty good cornering clearance for a non-sportbike, but it could still stand to be better. Now I'm sure your...

    gas/fuel/petrol mileage

Re: gas mileage Hmm, so the Vmax will run fine on regular? I've been feeding mine premium, just 'cause that's what my sportbikes take and I figured better safe than sorry. But saving a good 20 cents a gallon will add up (eventually) if the bike really is fine on regular.
