    COPs (Mitsubishi version)

Let us know how the Denso's work out for ya. As for the wires, the red wires on the COP plug harness goes to the ignition fuse. They are all virtually tied togther. That's the power (12v) wire. The other wire goes to the TCI unit. The TCI grounds the wires and makes the COP fire. So if you...

Birdoprey's COP (Coils Over Plugs) Mod

Thanks for doing all this research. I'm sure a lot of members here appreciate all the info that you're providing. One thing I want to mention though,,,,,,,,,,,, when I found out that my Mitsubishi COP's where causing the problems I was experiencing (intermittent shutoff), I switched to the...

    Drive train clunk

2001 Vmax with 28,000 miles..... does the same thing. I think it's normal. If I let up the clutch slowly and take out the slack before a burnout, it doesn't do it. I think it's just normal driveline lash. Vinnie

I got the pegs from Joe at Boxenstopp in Daytona. He gets stuff from a place in Germany, and that's where the pegs were made. They are rearsets with a lot of adjustments, but they are fastened in the stock mounting holes on the bike. They are set back about an inch or so and feel so much...

Intermittent shut off...SOLVED! I got a set of GSXR 1000 (2007) COP's from eBay. These are the short Denso units. Has a little sticker on each one that says Denso. They looked just like new and I got them for 29.99 I removed my Mitsubishi units that were from a 2007 Yamaha R1. I...

I have 4 short Denso's coming from a guy on eBay. I'll install them and let you know how it turns out. I don't even want to mess with the Mitsubishi's anymore. To have 2 of them fail (maybe more) on my bike, plus that I hear at least one of you guys has had the Mitsubishi's fail, make me not...

Thanks for the info. It's getting late and I was just being lazy. I looked back on old posts from Birdofprey and found all the information he posted as to what bikes use long and short cop's and which ones are Denso's. I'm going to look for some short Denso's and try those out. Vinnie

Hey Thanks, Let me think about that for a bit. For now, what I did was take the 2 metal surrounding pieces off of one of the COP's. I want to see where the arcing is coming from exactly. I don't see any cracks in the plastic so far, but I'm wondering why myself, plus some other guys are...

Re: Intermittent shut off... I think I found the problem Hey Guys, I think I found the problem. At least on my bike. I went riding today. About a 135 miles in the Colorado mountains. The bike this morning, did just one 'shutoff' during low speed riding on the way to get gas...

Which bikes have the Denso's stock and which have the Mitsubishi's? I have 2007 R1's and I forgot which ones they are. I may try and get a different brand to see if there's a difference. Vinnie

Well the higher resistance COP's shoud be better for this reason,,, The stock coils are rated about about 3.0 ohms. So the whole system is designed for that restistance. If you lower the primary resistance, then the whole ignition ciruit will pull more current. The seondary resistance is not...

    Intermittent shut off...

I think we can come to the conclusion that the voltage drop on #3 is normal (for the later model TCI). Now I'm just thinking that the excessive current draw of 'some' of the models of COP's is just too much and causing the issues of the intermittent stumble at low rpm. Next thing to find...

    Intermittent shut off...

I did some more testing tonight. I hooked up my volt meter to the #3 cylinder COP plug, and again I'm getting 10.3v only on that cylinder. All the rest are about 11.6 I unplugged both the fuel pump relay and the vboost control module. Neither made a bit of difference. So it seems obvious...

I'll bet if you dripped in some epoxy, the crack would be filled in just fine. I really interested in hearing your tests with the long sticks. Also, I kind of hate that there's this problem of ours, but it sure beats the hell out of thinking I'm the only one that has a problem and can't...

I just read those articles on the R6 coils. I'm going to check my coils to see if there's any sign of arcing. They are R1 coils, but who knows. If I see any arcing evidence, then this could definitely be the problem. Vinnie

Well I was thinking that with less resistance, the current increases and the voltage decreases. They are indirectly proportional. Like if you're running a machine that's designed for 230v operation, and you feed it with only 208v, the current increases and also makes the equipment run hotter...

    Intermittent shut off...

I guess I'm chasing this thing because I don't know if this low voltage (which is apparently normal) but with the COP's, is causing the problem or not. But I like having the COP's and don't want to go back to stock. What happened to your bike, with shutting off, has happened to me also. I was...

The fuel pump relay is located under the left front air scoop. It's the first relay on the left side. According to the schematics, the TCI has an attachment to one of the coils (don't know which one exactly) and also the tachometer. That's why I'm thinking that the relay is taking some power...

    Intermittent shut off...

On the full color schematics, do you know which coil is being referred to as far as being hooked to the fuel pump relay? I think they did the wiring this way because the TCI signal being fed to the coil, and tapped into by the fuel pump relay only lets the fuel pump continue to run when the bike...
