    Impact jackets

Did a little searching. Looks like the vest is what inflates so even with a jacket the arms are not padded although some have armor in the arms. Seen them as low as $200 for the vest, mesh jackets in the $240 range even some with full leather. They are triggered by a cable you attach to your...

    Impact jackets

They were just talking about this on the radio on my way into work this morning. Seems worth looking in to. Wonder what the difference is between the vest and jacket...

    cobra exhaust

It's going to sound funny but if it's rust I've always found a generous application of lemon juice will eat through enough over about an hour to loosen up most things.

    cobra exhaust

Re: cobra exaust I've got the opposite thing going 44, mine is running very lean with the Cobra's. The guy I bought it from wasn't the one who put them on so he didn't know much about it, although the guy told him it was jetted.

    cobra exhaust

Re: cobra exaust Cobra Slip-on owners. I've read a lot on this site and others and one thing I've have seen (or at least noticed) is someone mentioning the Cobra Jet Kit, Part #92-2168. Has anyone ever used this kit? You'd think that it would be tailored for their system but maybe that's...

    winter storage

Oh trust me get a Clymer manual. You start by thinking I'm just gonna fill here or drain this then next thing you know it's 3am and you have your carbs in pieces. :whistlin:

Personalized License Plates -What does yours say?

The group I hang out with is called the Tuesday Crew because of our habit of hanging out in the garage on Tuesdays. We all got plates and I'm CREW 3. However I'm toying with the idea of changing it to CREWL1 hehheh...

    winter storage

If I remember right it's one ounce per gallon, should say on the can. Doesn't hurt a bit to run it often I put it in my SUV a few times a year to clean things out. http://www.seafoamsales.com/motorTuneUpTechGas.htm

    winter storage

I used to put my maxim on it's center stand as well. I figure the less weight on the shocks and tires the better. I'd pull the battery and put it in the basement. I also would bring the seat inside just on the off chance the mice or red squirrles wake up find their way into the garage and...

    Basic Jet Question

Cool. Can that main jet be done with out taking the carbs out? I'm thinking I may eventually need to rejet. Mine is running pretty lean. The guy I bought it from said the guy told him it was jetted but from what I'm reading the cobra's require more dinking around and I'm guessing I'll...

    Basic Jet Question

Ok this might be really basic but when you guys talk about re-jetting are you talking about the Main jet (number 9 in service manual schematic), Pilot jet in the Jet block (number 13), Pilot Air Jet #1 (number 18) or the Pilot Air Jet #2 (number 20), or do all of them get changed? I've been...

    Well it's in pieces

I got 60 miles in last night there is a definate improvement in performance. Lots more pop when you hit the throttle. The MPG has improved to about 31, of course I was doing a lot of screwing around testing different things. All in all it was worth the effort... :rocket bike:

    Well it's in pieces

It's all back together and it actually runs. Now I just need to take it for an extended test ride to see if it runs well. I'm sure some tuning will be involved. The carbs themselves were in pretty good shape but the pilot jet was majorly blocked on 3 out of the 4. Pulled the plugs, #1 was...

    Well it's in pieces

Took a good look into the tank and it is in pretty good shape. I've run a lot of seafoam thru it so hopefully that got most of the crap out of there. Couldn't find the glass filter so I bought a stock one for now.

    Well it's in pieces

But I'm 1/3rd of the way to redoing the carbs. Taking them out was a pain so I'm sure putting them back will be cake right :whistlin: Need to get several new screws because who ever worked on it before did a number on the existing ones. Put in the new fuel filter and for fun cut open the old...

    Opinions wanted

Gonna start the carb work tonight I think. After all this discussion I may go back to the stock and loose the slip-ons. At least till I decide which way I want to go on a full system.

    Opinions wanted

I put new plugs in when I got it and the wires were good. I was going to pull the plugs and take a look now that I've run it for about 300 or 400 miles but it stopped raining this weekend. I'm guessing by the exhaust and one of those test tips that are posted I'm running a bit rich. The...

    Opinions wanted

Ok I need your guy's opinion. Few weeks back I bought an '85 max. It came with the Cobra slip-on's and K&N filters. The guy I bought it from couldn't tell me much because he bought it like that but he also said it had stage 3. The bike had been sitting for a couple of years so there were...

    Morley's seat in MN

Anyone in MN with Sean's seat on their bike? Was thinking I'd like to meet up on a run get a look and maybe and sit on it before I order one this winter. I'll be doing the flood run, chilli feed and most likely the frost your nuts runs. If you are heading out to one of those I'd love to see...
