    Installed swing arm with brace

Just ran to take a look. Indeed. I expected I must be missing something! lol It's been a long time since putting on a new tire, and I haven't touched a spare stock swing arm I bought to brace and notch it for 5 years maybe? haha 0ne thing for sure, this indicates a proper clean up/polishing is...

    Installed swing arm with brace

Maybe I am reading the first photo wrong, but isn't it already notched? The tube surrounding the shaft isn't straight as in stock but has indentation welded in.

    Change Gen1 Carb Diaphragms

Could you guys show a photo of what you are talking about? I don't think my diaphragms would need changing from what I saw when I removed the sliders a while back to clean and squirt some Seafoam in there. Mine is 2007 and if true, they were cleaned before I bought the bike in 2016. Bike runs...

    Know your mechanic

What I meant is John passed away and can't comment either way now. The context is lost. I just wouldn't throw him into this.

    Know your mechanic

Was going to say that, LoL I guess the issues run deep, and it's a matter of questioning integrity, so I get it that it's hard letting go. Would be refreshing to see things move past this though. Like countless things in life, there are things that will never reach resolution, and this feud...

18" radial tires for front and rear

The offset brake stays - I was researching them at the time. There are some nice fancy ones out there! All aluminum CNC etc. Eye candy. Would love to have one but the price just doesn't justify it for me. Perhaps if I had no other interests and hobbies beyond Vmax. I think eventually I will...

18" radial tires for front and rear

I am also a big proponent of using the same brand and type of tires. But it can be difficult to find them, as we already know it. After a lot of consulting and researching, I chose these two pictured below. Bottom line was, they must be of the same brand and as close as possible design. I also...

Gen 1 weak front wheel 'myth' ?

To add to the mix of 7 spokes front wheels, here's another one, my 1982 KZ1300 'six pack' of which I did a total bolt up restoration. These bikes came out in 1979. They are heavy and can deliver a punch with their 120 HP engines. Never heard of the wheels failing.

Radial tires on Gen 1 stock wheels

With all due respect, I think you missed the point I was making. I will try to explain to my best ability. It doesn't matter what one is driving by. For example, I mostly drive by the sound and feel of the engine. The tach is just means to measure and see one of the engines parameters, and the...

Radial tires on Gen 1 stock wheels

Check this out. It will tell you the exact error and speeds, and you can even do comparison to stock tires. Tire Size Calculator

Radial tires on Gen 1 stock wheels

L0L Yes. And with a 5 inch wheel you'd probably run the engine at a red line doing 20 miles and hour and wondering what the hell is going on - an example just to paint the picture. But great acceleration! - maybe if you'd compensate with a 5 foot wide tire for grip? Hahaha What it meant is the...

Radial tires on Gen 1 stock wheels

I'd stay away from 17 inch rear tire - the speedo will not be showing correctly. I'd go for 18" if you decide to go for it. I think 18 - 5.5 would be a good choice. Maybe because I have it L0L :)

Is V-Max value as a "classic" affected by common mods?

Firemedic said it all already, so not much to add. Perhaps just my observation over the years, which is used upgrade parts show up for sale steady. Not everything always available and not everything that has been made, but usually there is someone selling what you want out there if you ask. The...

    1st Gen V-Max 2007 Vmax - Vancouver, BC

Hi Peter. The bike came with it and all is Yamaha stock. I'd say the best way to find one is ask here or on the Vmax facebook forums. Besides the practical aspect when riding with a passenger, I think it complements the bike in shape and form. I love how the bike looks with it.

    1st Gen V-Max 2007 Vmax - Vancouver, BC

Thank you! I used to have 170 when riding on stock rear wheel. I used Shinko. Since buying MaxDaddy 18-5.5" custom wheel, I use radials. Back: Avon AV72 Cobra Rear Tire Blackwall 180/55ZR18 74W and Avon AV65 Storm 3D X-M Front Tire 110/80ZR18. This is the maximum width the stock could take. The...

    MaxDaddy rear wheel

Just to add a quick correction, of course the tire/wheel diameter, not the width, will affect the speedo reading L0L My mind had been in a gutter it seems, thinking of one thing but writing the other. Too many things on my mind, and distractions. A good reminder to stay focused. It's fixed now...

    MaxDaddy rear wheel

I think we have the same wheel. It's been a few years and eventually I became confused who made it. Now it came back to me it has to be Max Daddy as well. I bought it used but in perfect condition. It was a super deal I realize, and I hope I want make you upset L0L I paid $440 plus shipping. I...

    Saddlebags for V-max 1200

Looks good, and lots of space in those bags! I have Saddleman top bag, and it's enough for short trips in and out of town, now with a DIY rack I made. And I can put the second one, smaller, on the passenger seat if traveling solo. But that's not enough to securely store 2 full modular helmets...

    Dying while driving

Glad you solved it! Too bad I didn't see this thread earlier as I would suggest CDI as well - based on my experience. Which I will describe in short below. I wanted to upgrade and have more control over how the bike works, so I purchased Ignitech ecu unit. Using available proven maps - the...
