    First Vmax

There's a great thread here about it: http://www.vmaxforum.net/showthread.php?t=167 The first thing I did is put in Progressive fork springs. You will be able to turn with confidence AND go over railroad tracks without losing fillings out of your teeth. Like the man said, get yourself a stack...

    Dual sport suggestions

I have a '08 Kawasaki KLR 650, it's a great bike but tall. I've been trying to sell it but can't seem to give it away. I love it for any riding under 60mph. Once you try to keep up with 70mph traffic, it's work and the bike gets whipped all over the place.

I enjoy riding my bike more than working on it... stranded today

Hi desert max, I was reading your diagnosis as well when I was working on mine. You're absolutely right. I would have thought it improbable that my carbs would be dirty after running perfect for a couple thousand miles. If it happened right after I got it, maybe. Either way, they're cleaner than...

I enjoy riding my bike more than working on it... stranded today

I owe the bike an apology for thinking it was broken when it was entirely innocent in this tragedy. I think I'll show my appreciation by polishing out the scoops. :punk:

" Man , SOMEONE STOLE MY CREDIT CARD INFORMATION "

There are some serious ******** out there. I sell real estate and my commissions are wired to me. I have them go to a dummy account, then I transfer it to my main account. I keep the debit card on the dummy account and just transfer money as I need it (I use it for everything, online, gas...

Thanks Redbone! It's supposed to be back in the 60s tomorrow or Saturday. Maybe I'm weird, I just wanted it running right, whether I can ride or not. I couldn't sit still knowing there was work to do. Then again, sometimes I go in the garage just to look at it and make sure it's really mine too!

And Happy Thanksgiving to you too :eusa_dance: Not one of the AMA mechanics I talked to suggested draining the gas to test it, but you guys did. Rock on. Trav

You use taco sauce! :clapping: We have a winner! It's 36 degrees and misting, but I took it out for a 1.5 mile test. Max is back! I discovered in the process the front left carb air screw was nearly all the way in. They are all at 3 1/8 and purring again.

Last update for the fix because it helped me when searching these threads. Sometimes people solve the problems and never report back :ummm: I rigged a jumper from the fuel pump after confirming on the schematic that the black was ground. Put the battery on the trickle charger and pumped 3...

It burns like Pappy's corn liquor. Hope I haven't damaged anything. Total of 1 mile on this tank.

AND OMFG LOOK WHAT I PUMPED OUT OF MY FUEL TANK Does anybody know what this is? Is this water? I thought water was heavier than gas. Is it pure ethanol? I'm fixing to use a squeeze bulb and put a little into a stainless condiment holder, then sniff it and see if it burns, which I doubt. The fuel...

I enjoy riding my bike more than working on it... stranded today

Thanks, I'm thinking fuel pump at this point. Did the shotgun, but without a compressor, I'm not getting any joy. Just blew Berryman's through everything, took an hour and a half cleaning them. Was getting flow everywhere, runs like the same old ****. It started out promising, then burned the...

Put in seafoam and new fuel filter, fired up and ran another half mile before dying again. It was idling about 600rpm roughly, but would accept throttle and run ok. I guess I go through the carbs. For the record, no gas came out when changing the filter.

Got the filter, it was only $11 at the stealer. Got a can of Seafoam too, will give it a shot when I get home later today... I hope I don't have to tear into the carbs, but so be it if so..

Is gas going everywhere when I disconnect the old filter? I don't have any of those little rubber plugs any more.

Thanks for the responses! If Yamaha doesn't have the filter in stock, I read on here a Purolator 806 works. Can you get that at Pep Boys or Napa? Is there another that works as well? Gotta check the tank for rust, I could have hit some with the nozzle or sprayed just right and knocked some...

Punishing final ride of the season

Glad you made it home all right. I learned I'm glad I wear a full face helmet 100% of the time. It sucks you have to park your bike so long. It's hit and miss in the winter here in DFW, today was nice, tomorrow might be in the 20s. I can't imagine having to park the bike for more than a month...

I enjoy riding my bike more than working on it... stranded today

And remember, this bike spent enough time outside to dry a lot of the rubber and fade the paint off the heads. I don't know when anyone has been through the carbs to clean them. My Max shows signs of abuse by neglect. I doubt it got regular oil changes, the air filter was paper and at least a...
