I enjoy riding my bike more than working on it... stranded today

Ok, there was a trickle of gas in each carb, not really enough to collect, it dripped for about 3 seconds. Yes, the fuel pump whines and clicks like normal. I don't think it's just a one cylinder problem, when it runs it was hitting all four. It fast idles with full choke, won't accept throttle...

    Don't have a 100psi... don't have a compressor

I enjoy riding my bike more than working on it... stranded today

Thanks, I'll check those links. There was very little gas in the carbs. Was it supposed to drain out the tube when I unscrewed it? Nothing came out of the front left carb, a little trickled out of the others. Nothing came out of the tube. If gas was supposed to drain, I'm going to change the...

I enjoy riding my bike more than working on it... stranded today

Stopped to fill up today, got a half mile down the road and it acted funny, a mile down the road and it's dead. It will run with the choke on full, but won't accept throttle at all. It's been running great, I ran a full tank through it just yesterday and had run 40 miles already today. Where do...

How does your vmax handle on the twisties??

The difference from Progressives to stock 96 springs (worn out I'm sure) was night and day. It's a different bike. A real pleasure to turn. I can be a lot more aggressive and it sticks hard. This was the first mod I made and I'm very pleased. Still haven't scraped the pegs. They just got higher...

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

It's a 14 year old bike and I've only had it 3 months, so who knows? One of your seats is on my list very soon!

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

That was hilarious!, Redbone! I've seen that little bitch monkey hiding in the corner. I didn't know he came with the bike, but I'll be damned if he doesn't. So I got my '96 parts back from my buddy's shop yesterday, wheel bearings put back in, new progressive springs in the forks and went to...

Thanks! She's a good dog. Knows how to bark and growl, just won't do it. She 81 pounds, pretty girl. I'm interested to see how that voltage meter works out too.

Cautiously Proud New Owner of a 1989 VMax

Very nice, thanks for posting the pics. Hope it works out to be a great deal for you. I really like the red, I know I'm going to end up painting mine at some point.

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

My freakin bad! :rofl_200: I don't know how to do thumbnails, so here are big pics. I will get the chips filled in and try to get the engine clean as new, like the heads. I was wondering what else you could put in the cluster. Voltage would be a good thing to know. before and after painting...

How does your vmax handle on the twisties??

Mine does ok, you really have to muscle it though... I tried to scrape the pegs but couldn't. Then again, I'm not taking any 35mph corners at 80 either. I don't have a death wish. I have a new ME 880 and new springs going back on. We'll see if it makes a difference. Not much could be worse than...

Saddle Tramps lose 4 loved ones.

It's all of our biggest fear. Peace to those who have moved on, may they save us a spot in their eternal ride.

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

Not just today, but since Friday: Painted the faded aluminum back to black on the engine. Got some gloss black engine paint, sprayed it in the cap and brushed it on with a hobby brush. It looks good! Went to put a new tire on the back, ended up putting new wheel bearings front and rear. Since...

    Foolish Vrod rider

I love the stories too! Everywhere I look there's a cop and I couldn't afford the tickets. I get very little attention from anyone. Most of the Harley riders around here are older business dudes who ignore me, the gang members ignore me and I let the crotch rockets run rabbit for me.

    #@!^ Wheel bearings

Yeah I bet they can, there's a Purvis Bearing here in town that is usually able to match bearings up. I was going to take mine there tomorrow and see. Usually 10-20% of Yamaha's cost and they're good bearings. The shop I worked in back in the 80s used them. I just didn't want to do the front if...

    #@!^ Wheel bearings

I got a new ME-880 back tire in Friday, took the wheel off to go get it mounted and checked the wheel bearings. Felt like they had gravel in them. *&#@%^ @&*#!! Had to take it to Yamaha and they cut it out with a dremel because it was seized in there. $85 later, and I still need new bearings...

    Speedo rattle

Thanks, I was joking about the bubblegum, but I did consider taking it off and using super glue to suck into the cracks. You wouldn't see it and it should work, it just won't come apart again. :biglaugh: I imagine the rubber seal in there dried up. If for some odd reason the speedo ever quit...

    Speedo rattle

So much for tax free nicotine, the Chickasha Nation is getting rich. They buy tobacco tax free and mark it up 500%! It was a nice ride anyway, 60 miles each way. Took the cable out of the bottom and the glass still rattles in the speedo, but not as bad. Fixing to put some bubble gum on it.
