What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

My tires finally showed up at the independent dealer I’ve going to for years (Cycle Specialties, Cincinnati). Called service to set up appointment to have them install them. They then informed me that they will not install the tires if I bring the bike in. I have to just bring the just the...

Thanks 2017Vmax. I’ll try the engine brightener. I’ve used S100 cleaner for years. It’s good stuff.

Great to hear Captain!!! Did you have to keep your head down 24/7 and not look up for the first few weeks?

Oh yeah, how’s the eye doing? I have a buddy going through the same thing and he needs cornea replacement along with the retina work. Maryville is only about 4 hours from me. I could drop it off if I decide to do it. That’s well in the future. Hope you recover fully soon Captain!!

Thanks Fire-medic. Sounds like winter work. I’ll check out some YouTube vids and forum topics and decide how much I want to do.

    Is this possible?

Speaking of painting engines: Now that I got my Max almost perfect mechanically (tires tomorrow) I need to work on cosmetics. Any tips on cleaning/painting engine parts without removing the engine? I'm not about to tear it apart now...I'm about to ride the heck out of it!!!! Attached is a not so...

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

Yeah, I saw that. It was fun but man is it a different experience. It does feel like your sitting over the front wheel. I couldn’t ride it everyday. It’s a “hypermotard” type. My son’s a motorcrosser so he loved it! I will admit the wail of the triple at 13,000rpm is intoxicating and addicting.

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

Went for a ride Sunday with my son who just bought a 2014 MV Augusta Rivale…800cc triple, 410 pounds wet. Of course we had to see which is faster. 2nd gear, 30mph through 4th gear for me. He hit 5th…Dead heat. I remember when nothing could stay with me except a Gixxer 1000. Oh well, I still like...

Exactly!!! And there’s a lot of sentimental value in this bike.

I thought some might be interested in what I’ve done to my ‘86 and what it cost to get it back on the road after I got it back from the guy I sold it to in ‘98 and after it had sat for 11 years or so. All costs below include shipping if any was charged. 1) Rebuilt carbs-Dannymax- $698 incl...

Agree 1,000%. Took mine for a decent ride after Danny rebuilt the carbs and it literally runs perfect.

What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

Yesterday, rebuilt front and rear brake calipers, installed steel braided brake lines (Russell) on the fronts, new brake pads (EBC) and a proper ride.

I remember getting as low 28 and as high as 46. But usually it was around 38-40 with a mix of city/highway and getting on it every once in a while. I can't remember exactly how much fuel was left when the light came on but it was around a gallon. If anyone has the owners manual it says it in there.
