    Gen. 1 Lowering Thread

Thanks for the advice Mr.Midnight I already have the progressive springs so I'll run with those. I'll try the emulators straight out of the box with 10w oil. How do I set the static sag?

    Gen. 1 Lowering Thread

Thank you all for the suggestions. I'm returning to the thread as I'm planning to tackle this project in February. @MaxMidnight I have lowered the seat some already with the mid-level option from Sean. I forget the name he has for that one. I'm looking into the Race Tech Gold Emulators. I...

Looks like progressive rear shocks? Are they lowered any or are they stock height?

    Gen. 1 Lowering Thread

I was aware of the front fender interference. is that an issue in the rear too? I can live with that. What do you see as causing loss of control? Obviously, peg contact with the ground could cause a loss of traction, but outside of that the bike should handle the same. I've upgraded to Otec...

Thanks for the Response Fire Medic. Why would you advise against 2"lower in the rear?

    Gen. 1 Lowering Thread

Hey everyone. I've seen a few comments on here about lowering, but I had difficulty finding a good source that answered my questions regarding lowering. I want to lower my '07. I want to maintain or improve the handling characteristics, look stylish, and allow me to flat foot the bike. 1. I...

New HD Stater Clutch Installed - Does not freewheel

The root issue has not been identified yet. The problem was the replacement flywheel/HD starter clutch/idler gear was not allowing the idler gear to spin freely. Thus when the motor was running, it turned the starter over with it. The solution was to provide my stock flywheel up for machining...

New HD Stater Clutch Installed - Does not freewheel

Thanks for working it out Sean! The new flywheel worked like a charm!

You're correct. I had it backward. Same result when spun counter clockwise.

New HD Stater Clutch Installed - Does not freewheel

Hi all, I installed a new HD starter clutch from our own Sean Morley. I followed the guide produced by 9 Ton Mantis and MaxMighnight(attached). After install when I start the bike, the idler gear will not freewheel and it turns the starter. I pulled the cover back off and confirmed this. When...

    Coolant "Drain Cock" o-rings

Good deal! I found I had a matching OEM o ring fitted in another part of the cooling system. I removed it and measured it, then found a matching o ring at a hardware store. We'll see if it hold up

    Coolant "Drain Cock" o-rings

Hi all, I have a slow annoying leak from from the "drain cock" I can see in the schematic there are several o-rings and maybe a valve in there? Babbits shows it all as one unit for purchase. Do you know of what size o-ring these are so I can replace or where to purchase? Or maybe its something...

    Yet another "oil light" discussion:

Beautifully written Mr Max. I think you're dead on. If this o-ring was as problematic as some thought, it would be a known issue at Yamaha that they should have addressed. That reminds me of the starter clutch that they seemingly knew about but chose not to address for the entirety of gen 1...

    Yet another "oil light" discussion:

Mr Max. I've seec you in several threads persisting that the o ring is a non-issue. Why do you see it that way?

    Race tech springs

NHMax, also consider getting a rebuild kit from AllBall Racing. I had a great experience rebuilding the calipers on my '06. The pistons were seized up as well, but I was able to clean them up to move freely. Tough part was getting the pistons out. I found that a gasoline bath freed them up by...

    Cobra Exhaust Proper Jetting

Actually, I got lucky on Facebook. I was bitching about how I hated them on a post and somebody chimed in and said I'll trade ya! Well, I'll take that deal every day of the week! He got the Cobras and I got the Supertrapps. He has two sets of Cobras, and he's working on modifying them to perform...

    Cobra Exhaust Proper Jetting

Thanks for the comment, after multiple tear-downs and an ultrasonic bath it ended up being one of the air circuits. The pilots were good but the air circuit was clogged up. The little "sneeze" was corrected by switching from Cobras to the Supertrapp exhaust. Runs like a beast now!

Electrical fitting on clutch master cylinder

Thank you Midnight. Someone has certainly bypassed this on my bike. :/ Eventually I'll get around to fixing that too.
