    Cylinder Compression Test

Used a Harbor Freight $20 compression tester. It looks solid, ect. and has three fittings. This am rented Oreilley compression tester. Got it home, did not even have the correct fitting included! Will retest soon, what I did not do with first testing was to take all plugs out, then test one...

    Cylinder Compression Test

I read on RoadStarClinic.Com that a person should unplug the decompression solenoid and without doing so will result in low PSI readings. Would like to have this confirmed and where is it? I do take comfort that all cylinders are within 1-3 lbs of each other. Thanks

    Cylinder Compression Test

Checked compression with warm engine, wide open throttle, all came in at around 120 psi. Bike runs strong but this PSI seems low. Is it? Is a 98 with 10k miles. Is this telling me I need a valve/lifter adjustment? Thanks.

    New Engine Paint Job

I would love to have it done the right way too but I too don't have the money for that yet. Am hoping for a lottery win then yea, whatever I want, right? But in the absence of money, a $6 can of Rustoleum 500 degree engine paint and a roll of blue painting masking tape for $3.50 resulted in...

    Intake Joints, Ect. Replacement

As soon as I went to bed last night realized I had it wrong on the rich burn! Oh well, I had a senior moment.... One cylinder burns rich. So I guess it is in the carb. Tested the spark plug and it fires. After the bike is good and warm the cylinder burns like the rest. I am going to have to...

    Intake Joints, Ect. Replacement

Have a 98, it sit outside for years. The rubber joints connecting the carbs to the intake look pretty bad, ie, cracked rubber. Have not taken off carbs and done inspection but from what I can see, they are pretty bad, especially around the band clamps. Some of you experienced hands know what I...

    New Engine Paint Job

Today I masked off areas with blue masking tape and used Rustoleum 500 degree black spray paint to paint my faded out vmax engine. I will post pictures tomorrow but I can tell you this paint is pretty much a perfect match. It has made a world of difference in the look of the vmax engine. I...

    New Springs Question

Thank you for all those great solutions. Today I trimmed the spacer by 1/2 inch and raised the tubes in the tree by 3/4 inch. The test ride proved to be a great improvement in ease of turning and weight control. Believe me it made a world of difference.

    New Springs Question

Put new progressive springs in the front fork. Came with pvc pipe that i cut to fit. My question is can I lower the front end more by cutting the pvc pipe more, is it that simple? If I do this how much can I lower it? Can I take the pvc pipe completely out. Lowering the front end does what...

Memphis Shades Hell Cat vs Givi

Can't answer your question but can offer up another choice if it is not too late. Slip Streamer Viper. See pics. Does great job, wind over helmet. Little space on top of speedometer, lets a little air in, just enough.

    Checking Carb Float Level

I have read the how to on this subject but do not quite understand without step by step pictures. Know how to connect a tube to the drain and open the drain valve but the measurements and comparing to a mark on the carb is confusing. Is there any other article about how to check the float...

    Windshields

Update Feb. 7. I told Slipstreamer Windshields about my maiden ride with the windshield and the spill. They are sending me a new one free of charge! For me this put an extra star next to their name. Thought I would tell all you vmaxers about this. (Viper by Slipstreamer). My left knee is...

    Windshields

This little shield is great on the road. The wind is diverted over my head at the height I have it set. So far I highly recommend this $92 shield. Maiden ride with this shield, turning around in a parking lot, hit some gravel with the front tire at about 1-2 mph, skidded down, broke the...

    Windshields

Here are pics of the Viper on the Vmax. It is not a perfect fit. I wanted height as opposed to sitting right on top of the front headlight. The way I installed it allows some air to be let in between the headlight and the bottom of the shield. To add stability to the shield, put holes on the...

    Spark Plug Inspection

Additives I have been burning: Redline motorcycle fuel system cleaner, fuel stabilizer, RedLine fuel antifreeze. I guess these things will put something on the plug out of the ordinary.

    Spark Plug Inspection

Does anyone think the float may be stuck on the rich burning cylinder?

    Spark Plug Inspection

Just thinking why these screws on the right side get is bound up. My thought is the screw has two places to bind up, around the head of the screw and around the thread, and maybe both. They get fine dust and water in there when the bike is on it's side kickstand. If just around the head it would...
