How do you change your rear shocks?

Just need what fits like originals. Different bike have different size posts, etc. They do not make a different shock for every bike.

    Cruise control

Being a frugal person, I have been using the Vista-Cruise (or equivalent) for at least 35 years on every bike I have owned. Works great, takes no room on the grip and costs less that $30. On the Max requires some slight mods to the throttle sleeve.

Old Corbin Seat Fuel neck mod

The first time I saw that fix was in the 90's in the V-Boost magazine. There have been as many as 7 Maxes in our group at one time and most had Corbin seats with that fix. Now that I have the newer plug version it is not needed. Also the plug version lets you use a tail bag on the seat and gas...

    20th Anniversary V-Max progression

The only thing I would change is reduce the lowered front forks to 1" max instead of the 1.5". It is close to the point where a maximum stop using the front brake could cause the radiator to hit the front fender. I would also like to have an all original 20th Anniversary model. That and an 85...

Any Chicago area Vmaxxers available Saturday?

My bike had the popped orange o-ring but was not bad enough to affect the pressure. I changed out the oil gallery for a later year one that Yamaha had changed to correct the problem. I have pictures and descriptions somewhere on this forum from years ago. Do a search on orange o-ring for more...

Any Chicago area Vmaxxers available Saturday?

Oil pressure gauge. Common accessory due to the orange o-ring problem. The PO may have had an aftermarket exhaust and sold it before selling the bike to the current owner. Changing out the carb set-up is usually not worth the trouble to a seller.

    A/F Needles

These are only about $10 for each individual set. I would remove everything and install new ones with a little anti-seize. They have a tendency to seize which is a real problem. Usually on the right side due to being left on the side stand and moisture collecting in the area. The o-ring...

Any Chicago area Vmaxxers available Saturday?

Bike looks good and has some nice options. He didn't mention the larger headlight, different taillight, handlebars, horn and front fender. Surprised has stage 7 jet kit with stock mufflers though. That would be a question I would ask about.

They are stock. The first two years had a different front wheel.

    Startup problems

Does not sound like electrical. Has to be a fuel problem. Maybe something in the gas that took a while to get thru the filter into the carbs. Sounds like stopped up low speed jets in the jet block. With only 6500 total miles I doubt there is a serious problem. Draining the fuel bowls into a...

2nd Gen Corbin Seat and Gunfighter Backrest

All Corbin backrests fit all Corbin seats regardless of bike model. (Except Yamaha branded V-Max Corbin seats sold thru the dealers. They don't have the hole or internal hardware.). It will sell on eBay easily. Lots of guys have a Corbin and are looking for a backrest. My backrest I bought in 91...

How do you change your rear shocks?

Try doing one shock at a time if they are similar in length to the stock. That is what I did when changing mine. It is fairly easy to move the wheel up if needed with only one shock.

    voodoo exhaust

Delkevics are slip on only, not full system. They do sell head pipes but are same diameter as stock.

    Inspirations and ideas

If you want to see black wheels with orange stripe, check my album. I powdercoated my wheels black and applied the pinstripe. My rear wheel is a Kosman bolt-up, before he started welding them.

I'm a fan of the Ninja 1000 which is a more rounded/better equipped version of the Z1000.
