Advanced Rider Training, Why dont you take it?

I gotta say I took it this year, the basic, and I really enjoyed it. It was interesting, I've been riding since I was a kid on dirt bikes, then got my first Street Bike when I was in college and never looked back. LOVE riding, but the course did help me pick up a few things, some good stopping...

    One cylinder "popping"

Ok, I'll start with a little seafoam and playing with the idle mixture screw a bit. I guess I'm going to need a carb sync tool, amazon has one that has pretty good reviews.

    One cylinder "popping"

Oh, also, when the bike is warming up, if you hold your hand over the right pipe, you can feel the bike firing on both cyls, when you do the same over the left, you get a POP pop pop pop POP pop pop miss miss feel. It's hard to explain, but you can def tell the left isn't firing every time...

    One cylinder "popping"

I have one cylinder that at idle and cruise will pop a bit, and when the bike is warming up, it only really fires occasionally, once the bike warms up it is better, but still not quite right. When I hit the bike hard full throttle open, it's fine, runs perfect, but on cruising around 2-3k...

    oldest surviving vmax....

Yeah, I know! I most likely paid more than I should have for the bike, but heck, it's almost like I got a time machine and went back to 85 and bought one. :)

    oldest surviving vmax....

I have 3933 Voo-Doo 4-2 exhaust, v boost switch, 412 rear shocks, and blacked out scoops and wheels. 2,500 miles on the bike now (had 1950 when I picked her up this August). Joe

1986 VMax No Mods and Unmolested in Nebraska

Eh, I spent more than I should have for a 1985 vmax this year, but the bike only had 1950 miles on it. It's got 2400 on it now though, and I plan to put a lot more miles on it than that, but I paid just a tad less than 5 grand for her. Now, the bike is in awesome shape, and I don't mind that I...

    Riding gear

Cycle Gear has a coat they brand as a 3 season coat, the brand name is Sedici, I just recently got one and so far it's been great. Outer layer is mesh, so good for those hot days, but well armored, second layer is for rain, zips inside, 3rd layer is insulation, also zips inside. Several...

    Master Cylinder screws

I just got my slave rebuilt, the nice people at the shop did it since I just didn't want to end up regretting trying to get those bolts out of the slave. The master now has nice new bolts in it as well. Funny story, I made the appointment, told the wife we were headed over, and hopped on the...

    Question about battery charging

Just my experience but that's exactly what happened when my first 85 vmax had issues with it's regulator. Replaced it with the newer type, and never had another problem.

    Master Cylinder screws

Perfect! Thanks! Now to get the buggered up one the heck outta there.

    Master Cylinder screws

So, I thought "Hey, I'll top off my master cylinder for my clutch, that will give me a few more weeks of riding till I need to replace the seals in the slave". 5 min job, right? Get out there, the guy used hex bolts to replace the stock screws on the top, I remember thinking what a good idea...

    85 oil change, first step

    Ok, very cool. Thanks!

    85 oil change, first step

Yep, I had already watched that video, but I guess I just didn't pay close attention to the location of the drain plug. I owned a vmax from 1996 though 2004, but then ended up selling her because I just wasn't riding. But now I find myself with more free time (daughter is now a teenager, and...

    85 oil change, first step

Good, I thought that was it, might I ask why in the world it has a screw in it?

    85 oil change, first step

So, I am planning on changing the oil in my new bike just to be safe before the winter season, I have a pic of what I think is the drain plug, can you guys let me know if I've got the right part? :) Just want to make sure before I go cranking on it. Joe

    Yellowing pipes

Ok, sounds good. I don't know though, that yellow tint really pisses me off, I guess I'll just have to resolve to frequent elbow grease to keep it off the pipes. :) Joe

    Yellowing pipes

My voo-doo 4 into 2 pipes are yellowing. I have only put about 350 miles on the bike since I've gotten it, but the pipe yellowing has gone nearly the length of the pipes, and is starting down the actual mufflers now. I have read this can be due to a tuning issue, so my first question is where...

How many RPMs with stock rear diff?

I am tempted to look into this mod, but I really like the off the line acceleration the Vmax has as well, as a genera question, how much is that tempered by the mod?

    Vent Cap Installation

I just realized my nice shiny newly purchased 85 vmax does not have this part. I ordered it, it looks like it will just press fit in. Gotta love those little surprises. :) Joe
