Well Sean, I certainly am not going to disagree with your expertise, but all I can conclude then is that the previous owner of my 1997 V-max replaced the r/r with an older style unit at some point...why he would do that makes no sense to me:confused2:

Update: I just went out to see if it would start and it did. I realized that when I tried to start it before after it had stalled the fan was running because the engine was hot after the ride. So I shut the bike off, and turned on my fan over ride switch and sure enough the bike wouldn't start...

I'm even thinking that maybe I have done something myself to the bike. I replaced the rear tire a few days ago. Could I have misaligned the gears when reinstalling the rim which effected the starter clutch and so on? Man I am so fixated on this freak'n noise!

How certain are you? I don't mean to question your expertise but it just seems not right to me. I can actually feel it in the foot pegs now. Sounds like it is growling and goes away immediately once I pull the clutch lever in. I'm so paranoid that my clutch or transmission is going.
