Got the carbs out without issue. My first observation was that the choke arm wasn't working. After I got it out I checked all the individual enrichment plungers... they all slide nice and easy... but the metal rods connecting them all need a thorough cleaning. I started taking the first carb...

I took the air box off and thought I should snap a pic before getting the carbs off. This poor bike... She's seen some things.

Mileage wouldn't scare me off. Where the carbs rebuilt and sync'ed in that $2,400? Open the gas cap and see if there's anything beyond a tiny bit of surface rust. Even if the carbs were just rebuilt, if the tank is rusty it will just clog things up again. Take it on a test ride and really get on...

I got the fenders on and popped the faux tank on for a few pics. Next up is to put the clutch MC back together and mount it. Then onto the carbs!

Yes, the flames are decals. I clear coat over them. Done it on several bikes now. I have a decal cutter at home so I can turn just about any simple 2-color image into a decal... my wife got it for me about 3 years ago and I haven't stopped using it since!

I got the clear coat done tonight. Hot damn, she is looking beautiful!

When did he stop riding? If it's sat for 6 months or more then plan on doing the carbs and possibly the tank.

I didn't remove the decals on the fenders... It looks like a shadow of the flames, which I really like. Gunna go with black flames in the faux tank though. Then ready for clear coat.

I couldn't do it. I couldn't make a pink bike. Also, the bike having the black wheels with red stripes created too much of a clash. I took the paint back off last night. I'm going to go with a heavily metallic red with black flames. I'll get more pics after I get the base coat on.

Thanks, guys. It's the flames... if I new it wasn't going to come out a deep red then I wouldn't have made them red. I like the color, but it just clashes with the red flames so much that I might have to do something about it... ugh... to be continued.

So I ordered paint that was supposed to match there original anniversary red color. The base coat came out like a copper color, but I assumed the mid coat color would be a deep semi-transparent red... Nope. It came out like a rose gold color. It's it so ugly that it might be cool? Or is it...

Same year and condition? If so, save the $3k!

Someday I'll get into powder coating. It looks awesome. My wife is looking at a bigger house... I was against the idea but she found my weakness with the one she sent me over the weekend... The attached one car garage would be hers, the three garage barn with full upstairs for a shop would be...

Thanks again, FM! The older I get, the more I know, the more I realize I don't know. Those are some ingenious methods. To date, I've gotten lucky enough to have master cylinders that are functioning enough to push the caliper pistons out before I take them off the bike... except when I forget...

I finished the calipers so I started on the brake master cylinder. The bike is a midnight edition, so I feel like I have to paint it black, but the paint came off so easy that I'm tempted to just leave it raw aluminum.
