450-Mile Ride Today + Possible Fuel Pump Issues

Yep. Tried that. No difference. So here's the events from today. I pulled off the fuel line from the tank and installed a new fuel hose and put it into a gas can. The fuel pump ran a little and primed perfectly. After 3 times turning the key on, it stopped pumping and was primed completely...

450-Mile Ride Today + Possible Fuel Pump Issues

Today it ran good for about a block, then died. Pushed it home. I pulled the fuel pump apart, and everything looks good and in it's place. The internals were actually in very good condition. It clicks for about 5 or 6 seconds - every time the key is turned on. It's not priming. I cleaned the...

450-Mile Ride Today + Possible Fuel Pump Issues

New fuel filter installed just a couple weeks ago. Another note is that when I start the bike, I can hear (and feel) the fuel pump clicking at idle. I've never heard the fuel pump on my 3 previous V-Max's at idle. I'm thinking it's the diaphragm. Concerning the $16 Chinese fuel pumps -...

450-Mile Ride Today + Possible Fuel Pump Issues

I synced my carbs and installed new rear brake pads this morning, and headed south 200 miles to Dallas, TX - just for fun. Perfect weather! BUT... on the way back, after about 70 miles, I felt the engine lose a couple cylinders, followed by the rest. I coasted to the side of the road (in the...

My Custom Exhaust Pipes arrive Wednesday!

You won't believe it. :biglaugh: Sounds like a Top-Fuel dragster. It's really intense.

My Custom Exhaust Pipes arrive Wednesday!

My custom [loud] pipes are scheduled to arrive Wednesday from Hungary with my tools and household goods. I'm pretty excited. OKC will not be the same. Glad I don't live there any more. Waaaaay too restrictive and extremely difficult to get parts and accessories. Drag racing was the best...

    Need help with Cops--

Resistorless COPs + stock ignition box ride report: Put another 35 miles on it with varied riding styles. Everything is fine, and what I expected. I'm greatly releived to have faith back in my bike. Can't wait for a 3-hour ride to Dallas sometime... just for lunch or something. I have not...

    Need help with Cops--

Nice meeting with Traumahawk today. Traded ignition boxes and had lunch. Talked a lot about V-Maxes, hot-rods and stuff. Good times. Can't wait to get some rides in with my OKC V-Max brothers. I got the box in and it runs very well. Will get it on the road now. Glad that's all behind me and I...

    Need help with Cops--

Ha ha. Nice! I just ran an uneventful 40 miles tonight around the city. In the first 3 miles or so, I whacked it to WOT, and it crackled and popped a little. I did it again and it repeated. But never again after that. In fact once I hit second hard and the front tire came up. I weigh 235-ish...

    Need help with Cops--

I took a couple hours today to completely re-do the wiring. I insulated the blades very well with 180 degree C temp self-vulcanizing tape. Zip-tied the tape so it would stay in place. I also rigged some plastic insulator tubing (like for wire looms) and put that over the blades as well. I just...

    Need help with Cops--

I got the resistors and installed them today. They are 1 Ohm, 25W resistors. They each ohmed at 1.5 with my meter - not sure why. The bike started and ran good idling in the garage. I remember someone saying they get hot. YES. THEY GET SMOKING HOT!!! Can barely touch them. I soldered them in...

    Need help with Cops--

I was intending to start a thread about using a Dyna 3000 with COPs, but this thread has a lot of related info. The question above... I'm using a Dyna 3000 with unresistored COPs. I didn't know there was a compatibility issue and rode the bike for 6 hours on Saturday. I have since seen all...

    Ignition Fuse (Just a Comment)

+1 on recommending Sean Morley. He helped me considerably when I purchased some chrome scoops. He accommodated a goofy situation when I had to mail him my old ones and collect my new ones - all coordinated during a business trip to the US while I lived in Hungary. Wasn't easy, but Sean made it work!

    Ignition Fuse (Just a Comment)

Mine's a 1993. If I don't find resistors today, do you want to sell me your ignition box? My timing with reading this stuff is bad. I rolled through your town yesterday. :confused2: You're exactly right, Bill. I've seen the same at auto drag races. Saw a guy lend another racer a...

    Thankful - Long Ride Today

A more responsive start and rev, in my opinion. I've owned 4 V-Max's in my life, and the last two had badly cracked stock coils. Seems consistent with others' comments.

    Ignition Fuse (Just a Comment)

From the hour I just spent reading about this, there are no COPs compatible with the Dyna 3000. The fix is installing a 1 Ohm, 25W resistor in series with the + wire going to the COP. But I have no resistors and had no problems riding about 6 hours today. But I need some insurance that I...

    Thankful - Long Ride Today

After replacing the rear valve cover gasket and adding COPs ignition, I headed for Texas to visit an Air Force Base I was assigned to for school (Sheppard AFB) 30 years ago this year. Mr. Max ran good all the way. No leaks. Even messed with a Hellcat Challenger a little. We both exited, and I...
