What did you do to your Vmax today? Part 2

Replaced the "sawed off" centerstand. Previous owner tripped over the centerstand several times while refueling the bike, including one trip to the emergency room. Out came the sawsall and off came the foot step. See pic. so, on a cold/damp Sunday afternoon I replaced the centerstand with a...

JIS screwdriver A MUST-HAVE TOOL (Japanese industrial standard) Phillips, and JIS screwdrivers explained and differentiated

That's a tough question. Needless to say, the Vmax is much quicker in a straight line. I guess the KZ1100 is like a late 70s-early 80s "superbike" on steroids. The Vmax is like a mid 1980s muscle cruiser on steroids. Both great rides in different ways.

JIS screwdriver A MUST-HAVE TOOL (Japanese industrial standard) Phillips, and JIS screwdrivers explained and differentiated

Motion Pro has JIS bits. Got them via Dennis Kirk, I think. Cost about $2-3 for each size. Needed them for overhaul of the 4 Mikunis on my 1982 Kawasaki KZ1100 shaft.

Steering Head Bearings Replaced and Wobble Gone

As noted above, I just cured my wobble with new steering head bearings. I did the setup per the Clymer V-max manual, which I suppose cribs off the factory shop manual. So, I thought it might be helpful to go over that and why it makes sense, at least to me. I will refer to the closeup of the...

Steering Head Bearings Replaced and Wobble Gone

Oops. Forgot the pic of the cheap driver tool that worked for removing the upper outer race from the steering head

Steering Head Bearings Replaced and Wobble Gone

I replaced the old marginal front wheel brake rotors on my 2005 Anniversary Edition Vmax and installed EBC HH sintered pads. Bike then stopped like it meant it. But then, once the front end was actually loaded when stopping, the wobble started. Bike had developed a mind of its own and kept...

New to me 2005 Vmax 20th Anniversary Edition

Found it! It is a dipstick, P/N 2H72815A00, for checking the oil levels in the middle and rear gear drive cases in some earlier shaft drive Yamahas. This explains why one end is marked "middle" and the other end "rear." Tried to get better pic, attached.

My lousy photography. It is solid with a rectangular cross section. Thanks. Gtista

My eyes hurt from looking at this 'Ducati'

And here is my model year 2000 Ducati 996 with the factory fairings and the same engine that is in the custom bike. Thanks. Gtista

New to me 2005 Vmax 20th Anniversary Edition

Hi, here is a pic of the tool kit. I found it on Ebay by searching the part number from the 2005 Vmax parts book. Also here is the pic of the nylon item. the shorter end is printed "rear" and the longer end "Front." Looks like it might be intended to be cut in two at the joint in the middle...

New to me 2005 Vmax 20th Anniversary Edition

Just acquired this 2005 Vmax. Has 44,000 gentle miles on it. Runs fine and pulls like a locomotive. V boost is something else! Cosmetically bike is very, very clean. Not a ding on it. Did have a leaking right front fork and right brake caliper. Rebuilt both forks while I was at it. Was...
